Brush up on HackerRank, codechef, codeforces, GFG, Leetcode etc to get comfortable with this format.🚀🚀 - Machine Coding Round (120 mins): Here, I faced a real-world problem! I had to design a system, write code, and fulfill specific requirements within the time limit. This round tests your ability to think on your feet and translate ideas to code effectively. Practice designing systems beforehand and simulating real-world scenarios.🚀🚀 - Problem Solving & Data Structures (60 mins): This round focused on my coding fundamentals with 2-3 medium-hard coding problems. There are only 3 type of reviewers: 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐂𝐚𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐲𝐬𝐭 – Will approve the PR in seconds and say, “Prod mein dekhenge aggr kuch fttta hai toh 😂 " 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐈𝐧𝐡𝐢𝐛𝐢𝐭𝐨𝐫 – Will carefully review the PR, point out good coding practices and edge cases, and typically request 2-3 revisions. 😏 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐁𝐥𝐨𝐜𝐤𝐞𝐫 – The worst of them all (Bhed ki khal mein Bhediye), they won’t let your PR through easily. Expect 10-15 revisions as they stubbornly push their, no matter your approach. They will even find grammatical mistakes in summary of PR. 😡

I have read two blogs on recommendations by Twitter & Instagram, here's my perspective 🧑‍💻 for context, the blogs I read were: 1) Twitter's recommendation algorithm for user timeline 2) Instagram's Explore Recommender system Overall, there are two points to build a good recommendation system 1) candidate sourcing: how do you select relevant candidates 2) ranking: how do you rank those candidates and select top N candidates Among the two, candidate sourcing is surely the trickiest one among both. The reason is the scale at which both Twitter & Instagram operate. They have millions of users posting about hundreds of thousands tweets/posts daily. So how do they find those posts which have a higher chance that user will interact with them or atleast wants to see them. When I deep dived into this I read about something called as "embeddings". Embeddings is a popular technique used by both platforms Twitter/Instagram to find what tweets or posts/video you might interact with. Let's consider Instagram for example. Instagram uses a machine-learning model where each insta account is represented by an array of numbers (called vector) in a high-dimensional space. For example: there's a insta account called "dogs_lover" which might be represented as [0.5, 0.2, 0.9, 0.3] as a vector Instagram knows that you've liked "dogs_lover" account posts in the past. So, when Instagram wants to recommend accounts similar to "dogs_lover" to you, they can use a distance metric (like cosine distance) to find whether other accounts are similar or not to "dogs_lover" account. If the distance metric > threshold, then show it to the user, otherwise filter it. This was the top learning for me out of the two blogs and it was intriguing to understand that both Twitter & Instagram use such a technique for finding recommendations. After Solving 300 Questions on LeetCode, Here's What I Have Learned: 1. Limit Focus on Easy Problems:   - Use easy problems primarily when learning a new data structure or algorithm.   - Move on to more challenging problems once you grasp the basics. 2. Prioritize Medium Problems:   - Concentrate more on medium problems initially.   - Don't worry too much about hard problems when you're starting out. 3. Time Management and Solution Review:   - Spend 15-25 minutes on a problem. If you can't find a solution, check the provided solutions or watch YouTube explanations.   - Dry run the solutions to understand them better. 4. Consistency:   - Solve problems daily to avoid procrastination and build a regular habit of problem-solving. 5. Efficient Practice:   - After learning a new topic, solve no more than five problems related to it. You'll naturally encounter similar problems later, which will test your understanding effectively. 6. Review and Refine Solutions:   - Mark the problems you solved with help. Isn't it strange that none of the IITs have an Apple Lab  During my time at IIT, I noticed something surprising: None of my batchmates nor students from other batches knew or had interest in iOS development. During my campus placement year, I didn't see a single company hiring for iOS developer roles. I think it's the lack of awareness and lack of opportunities at the college level which hold India back from creating more iOS developers. Most iOS developers I know either stumbled into it through mobile app projects in their first job or were encouraged by friends to explore the field. While there are some exceptions, this is a common path. With the demand of iPhone and MacBook increasing in India, we need more iOS developers to create useful and innovative apps for Apple platforms. We need more Apple Labs in colleges as well as more people talking about this field and more discussions about the field and its career prospects. Despite being one of the least discussed domains, iOS development has significant potential for career opportunities all across the globe. Though I was a bit late to get into this domain but transitioning to it has been one of the best decisions ever. Dear Swiggy Team, Hi Saptarshi Prakash In the recent update, I noticed that in the checkout page tabbed view, commonly referred to as a segmented control—( a linear group of buttons that typically allows users to select only one option at a time) However, in this update, I observed that I can select a tip, delivery instructions, and choose the delivery type, all within the same control. This seems to deviate from the typical usability of a segmented control, as it allows multiple selections. I understood that you are using a tabbed view to save real-estate. Is this a new UX pattern, or was this an intentional change? Looking forward to your clarification. If I have conveyed anything incorrectly, please feel free to correct me. Best regards

You compare your problem-solving abilities and feel frustrated... - Your teammate got promoted, but you didn’t. You compare your work with theirs and feel discouraged... But what does all this comparison do? It doesn't help at all. It only drains your productivity and motivation. Comparing yourself to others is a losing game. You’ll never win by doing it. You have your own unique path, just as they do. You'll get what's meant for you when the time is right. So don't beat yourself up. Leetcode Problem Of The Day : Separate Black and White Balls Approach: 1. Variables: ans: This will store the total number of moves needed. last: This keeps track of where the next '0' should be placed (i.e., the position where the next '0' should move to). Initially, this is set to 0. 2. Loop through the string: For every character in the string s, check if it is '0'. If it is '0', calculate how far it needs to be moved by subtracting the current last from curr. This difference is added to ans. After moving a '0', increment the last index, indicating that the next '0' should be moved to the next available position. Here's another update on what we are currently building at InternPulse. We are building a revolutionary product that will help families track and manage finances easily and conveniently. The platform has many features including the creation of sub-accounts for family members and tracking their spending. One of the features I like most and look forward to seeing is the one that helps parents teach their children the best way to save and invest. I like it mostly because it will help instill the generational wealth mindset in such children. I am working with the team that is tasked with the creation and management of APIs for everything account-related and transactions. Currently, I am working on the middleware that will communicate with the user management service to ensure users are authenticated before accessing the Accounts and Transactions APIs. I am learning many things about working in teams, the ups and downs. I'm learning to deal with dependencies while working on my deliverables. Swiggy used RAG to build its in-house Text-to-SQL -- allowing all employees to make data-driven decisions faster. 📈 Here’s how they built the system end-to-end: Suppose a user types a question in Slack, like "What's the average delivery time in Delhi last week?" The query passes through AWS Lambda, where a function cleans and formats it before sending it to the LLM. The model then checks the Knowledge Base for metadata related to “delivery time”, which includes tables and columns relevant to delivery data. It identifies “average delivery time” as the metric and retrieves relevant historical SQL examples. Using Swiggy-specific metadata, it selects tables like Orders and columns like delivery_time. The model also uses few-shot learning by adding reference queries from similar past requests to guide the SQL generation. Finally the generated SQL query is run on Snowflake, and gets adjusted if errors occur. The final query output is sent back to the user on Slack. Users can rate accuracy, helping refine the model. Hi All, Today, I participated in Today's LeetCode Weekly Contest 408 and secured a rank of 931. Here is a small editorial for the same - Problem A: Count sum of all 1 digit numbers for alice and 2 digit numbers for bob and vice versa. If in any of the 2 cases, the sum for alice is greater than sum for bob so return true else false; Solution Link : https://lnkd.in/gxvXVTMZ Problem B: We see that such special numbers are those numbers that are square of prime numbers like (4,9,25,49....) as (2^2, 3^2, 5^2, 7^2..) etc. So we know that since r can be upto 10^9 so prime numbers can be upto sqrt(10^9) ~ 10^5. So we calculate prime numbers till 10^5 using sieve of eratosthenes and count all numbers such that prime^2 >= L and prime^2 <= R. Then answer is (R - L + 1 - SPECIAL). Problem D: So here we see that if (0,0) or (X,Y) lie inside any of the circles so not possible. So now we consider each circle as a vertex of a graph and add an edge between all pairs of circles that intersect with each other. We also see that if there is a path of intersecting circles from top edge to (bottom or right edge) or left edge to ( bottom edge or right edge) so we would never be able to reach the top right cell (X,Y). So we maintain 2 more vertices (n for top and left edge) and (n + 1 for right and bottom edge) and add them to the graph if they intersect with any of the circles. So if the vertices n and n + 1 belong to the same connected component so we cannot reach from bottom left to top right corner. We can easily check this using a DSU of size n + 2 using rank and path compression (Optimized). Here is a step-by-step process to pick apart any low-level design question. ----- 𝑆𝐷𝐸 1+ ----- 𝟏. 𝐒𝐂𝐎𝐏𝐄 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐏𝐑𝐎𝐁𝐋𝐄𝐌 As you speak with the interviewer, you may list 5-10 requirements for the question. You cannot satisfy these requirements in 45 minutes. Decide on what is important to the system. Pick JUST ONE important requirement, and start with it. The rest can be picked later, if time permits. 𝟐. 𝐋𝐈𝐒𝐓 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐀𝐏𝐈𝐬 𝐅𝐈𝐑𝐒𝐓 Users interact with the system using APIs. That's what matters most. Name the APIs sensibly. Walk through how a user will use these APIs to meet the given requirement. Example: In a booking system, how does a customer temporarily lock, pay for, and permanently book a seat? They do it using APIs. Your job is to explain the request flow and interactions. 𝟑. 𝐍𝐎𝐖 𝐃𝐄𝐅𝐈𝐍𝐄 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐎𝐁𝐉𝐄𝐂𝐓𝐒 List the request and response parameters. Most of your system's objects will surface here. At this point, you can write the skeleton code, with objects and services. ----- 𝑆𝐷𝐸 2+ ----- 𝟒. 𝐂𝐎𝐍𝐒𝐈𝐃𝐄𝐑 𝐂𝐎𝐍𝐂𝐔𝐑𝐑𝐄𝐍𝐂𝐘 You won't be expected to code a concurrent system. But you will be expected to talk about "how will this system handle concurrent requests?" The usual problems with concurrency are dirty reads and out-of-order processing. Even identifying these problems (without a clear solution) is a big green flag. ----- 𝑆𝐷𝐸 3+ ----- 𝟓. 𝐂𝐎𝐍𝐒𝐈𝐃𝐄𝐑 𝐓𝐄𝐒𝐓 𝐒𝐔𝐈𝐓𝐄𝐒 A system is going to have edge cases. It's the tricky ones that matter most. Noting edge cases, and adapting the system to solve them, is a clear green flag. 𝟔. 𝐂𝐎𝐌𝐌𝐔𝐍𝐈𝐂𝐀𝐓𝐄 𝐂𝐎𝐍𝐒𝐓𝐀𝐍𝐓𝐋𝐘 Walk your interviewer through the code while you write it. Leetcode Problem Of The Day : Lemonade Change Approach: 1. Tracking the number of $5 and $10 bills: Use two variables, fives and tens, to keep track of how many $5 and $10 bills you have. 2. Iterating through the bills: Loop through the array nums, checking the value of each bill. If the customer pays with a $5 bill, simply increment the fives counter since no change is needed. If the customer pays with a $10 bill, you need to give back one $5 bill as change: If you have at least one $5 bill, decrement fives and increment tens. If you don't have a $5 bill, return false since you can't give change. If the customer pays with a $20 bill, you need to give back $15 as change: Preferably, you should use one $10 bill and one $5 bill if possible (i.e., tens > 0 && fives > 0). If you can't use a $10 bill, check if you have at least three $5 bills (fives >= 3). If so, decrement fives by 3. If you can't give the correct change, return false. 3. Return true if you successfully give change to all customers.
