🌟 Here’s a quick and lively scoop about my recent experience attending the SHRM India Annual24 Conference virtually this time! It was an incredible opportunity to gain insights from industry leaders on a wide range of crucial topics, all from the comfort of my home. 💡 One standout session for me was on #Outcomation (Outcome + Innovation)—an inspiring approach to roadmap creation and future planning. The strategies discussed were not only thought-provoking but also incredibly valuable for driving success in our organizations. 🏡 One of the topics they discussed that I found particularly fascinating was on : #Fostering Family-Friendly Workplaces for the Future to be impactful. It emphasized the importance of creating inclusive environments that support and uplift all employees, which is vital in today’s work culture. 🤝 Another key theme that really stood out to me was the significance of #Networking, #EmployeeProductivity, and #Prosperity, as well as the #evolving strategies needed to stay Future Ready in today’s changing world. A rather nice thing happened to me last Friday. As we were winding up after completing an employee engagement festive quiz for a corporate client in Kolkata, a senior participant came up to me and said, "Souvik, I really enjoy your quizzes. You ask questions from things that are known to us, yet often unknown to us in some way. I always felt that quizzes were difficult and questions were asked on nerdy subjects, but your quizzes have changed my perceptions. This is the third year you hosted this quiz for us and I have liked them every year. Also, I like the way you encourage the teams to attempt your questions and you look genuinely happy when someone gets it right. Hope to participate in your quiz next year too." Talking about Career Shifts with Gopal A Iyer Gopal is a powerhouse with 20+ years of experience in the HR domain. Recently, he shifted gears and took on the role of COO at a consulting firm. We spoke at length about the need for professionals to explore more career opportunities than the path they have always followed. Birthday Wishes: I am overwhelmed with the stream of wishes ( still it is continuing ) wishing me many happy returns of the day. I am one who believes in individually thanking each one of you. I have worked in senior positions in four different organizations. Receiving stream of visitors on birthdays and participating in birthday celebrations hosted by different departments/units/locations was part of professional compulsions (including hosting). Getting so much of wishes from ex colleagues, client organizations, well wishers and some professionals trained by me in different locations ( 980+ programs and therefore approximately 25000 trainees), College/School friends, relatives and prospective clients. is really encouraging. My family members want me to hang up my boots but I have decided to take a fresh guard for my onward training journey. Due to personal life exigencies, I am shuttling between Chennai & Mumbai quite frequently. Some times, it becomes a blessing in disguise not only to my clients in Chennai/Mumbai but also to Bangalore/Hosur and Hyderabad clients. 40+ years of experience is a boon, especially in disseminating my experience by way of practical solutions to complex questions raised during/after the training programs. Now the demand is increasing for our special programs like "Dealing with Ambiguity", "Managerial Courage", "Organizational Agility" and "Dream Team" Programs when compared to vanilla programs on Team, Leadership, Communication, Decision Making etc., My guarantee for effectiveness of training programs is not because of audacity of our long experience but because of our willingness for continuous learning.   It is a positive change that Independent directors have gradually begun voicing their dissent on corporate boards, thanks to SEBI directives urging them to make more disclosures. This hasn’t been the prevalent norm though. Independent directors are even vary of citing real reasons for their exits. Culture and effectiveness of the board is a critical enabler for organizational success. More women on boards is also helping the change. HBR's research with actual board members- men and women- suggests that women directors come to board meetings well-prepared and concerned with accountability.  They come into board meetings armed with questions that shape decisions. They are not shy about acknowledging when they don’t know something, are more willing to ask in-depth questions, and seek to get things on the table. Through their presence, women enable boardroom discussions that are more nuanced and deeper, leading to better corporate governance and more effective decision making.
