Reports suggest that about 74% of the total investments in solar energy have, so far, gone to the developed countries and China. The share goes to 80% of total investment if India is added to the list. Here's what sparked my interest in sustainability: #GreenerTogether #LinkedInNewsIndia Sustainability is important, vital,crucial and imperative for the survival of our blue planet. It is hoped that the world leaders at the COP Summit will rise above the usual platitudes , sermons, political double speak and get down to some practical solutions. It is well documented that 81% of the energy demands are met thru coal, NG and Oil and expecting immediate drastic cuts by any country is impractical. The captains of the industries and the leading countries should insist on end to end solutions instead of just shifting the pollution elsewhere and relocating the monkey to some other's shoulder. For example introduction of EV's appeared to be great for Carbon reduction,till one notes that on an average 4300 Kwh/ annum is required to keep these batteries charged. ( total no of cars are estimated to be 1.7 Billion ). Unless this 'charging energy' is also Renewable ,IC engines will continue in our lives. Remember that Energy is neither produced nor destroyed . It is only transformed. Will it at all be possible for the Leaders to run a Gandhian campaign to reduce consumption by the rich nations? Sadly most national economies are fueled thru conspicuous consumption and this attempt will be fought tooth and nail. The leaders have to force reduce consumption of energy to keep this planet alive .Mere repetition of " Sustainability " like a magic word will not help.

What an amazing conversation it was with a well informed audience at IIT, Mumbai a few days ago. Sustainable energy and its various dimensions were discussed at length and it was heartening to note that consequent to these discussions, a group has been constituted to deluberate and work out clear set of recommendations. Absolute clarity by Avinash Hiranandani ji on the risks involved in entering the USA solar market. There is one more risk: Political Risk No one knows what Donald J. Trump For President 2024, Inc. will do with the USA solar industry if he comes to power again in the next election in November 2024. I believe Donald Trump might ban solar panel imports not only from China but also from India and other countries. This would serve two purposes: first, it would give breathing space to the coal, oil, and gas traditional energy generation industries and help save jobs in those sectors. Second, it would speed up domestic manufacturing in solar and related industries, creating more local jobs. So, Which countries should Indian solar module manufacturers target as their next export destinations? Australia could be one, and maybe Japan. What do you think friends? What’s your opinion? As an engineer, I believe in actionable solutions—and Delhi’s AQI crisis needs urgent, united efforts. Action Plan to Address Delhi’s AQI: 1. Strengthen Policies Enforce stricter emission norms via Ministry of Environment, Forests & Climate Change, Government of India and Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) with stronger AQI monitoring and penalties. Expand renewable energy incentives through Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE). 2. Scale Renewable Energy Promote rooftop solar and transition government and industrial power to solar and wind with partners like Adani Green Energy Ltd., TATA POWER SOLAR pvt ltd, Hinduja Renewables, ReNew, etc. 3. Adopt Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) Deploy BESS for grid stability and reducing diesel generators, led by Sanvaru Technology Ltd. Power Forever 4. Electrify Transport Replace 60% of public buses with EVs powered by renewables through Transport for Delhi Incentivize EV adoption for private and fleet users via Ola Electric, Ather Energy and Mahindra Electric Automobile Limited. 5. We, the Entrepreneurship & Venture Capital got the pleasure of hosting the co-founder and CMO of Yogabar, Aditya Anand at Indian School of Business We got to hear about his inspiring story and some of the insightful takeaways are as under: 1)     Packaging is your silent salesperson- he mentioned how they opted for bright, colorful packaging which helped grab attention in the racks full of competitors’ products. 2)     Make people feel good- He emphasized how unlike traditional brands which targeted on insecurities of people to sell their products, they wish to provide healthier food which makes you feel good about yourself. They are focused on creating a positive community. 3)     Marketing will get people to try, but a good product will get a repeat buy- Before you start focusing and spending money on marketing run pilots and be sure that once customer try the product, they love it and come back for more. 4)     Distribution is King- When asked why ITC, he mentioned that with their distribution channels, YogaBar can be present in every corner of the county truly making India eat healthy. I am writing this post after 7 months of hosting this event because of how hectic ISB was, which further underscores these lifelong learnings.

Centre approves investment of Rs 10,501 cr in ONGC OPaL Monday, 12 Aug 2024. The central government has granted an approval letter to Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) to invest Rs 10,501 crore in ONGC Petro additions (OPaL). The letter has been issued by the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas, Government of India (GoI). Furthermore, the GoI has also sanctioned the conversion of back-stopped compulsorily convertible debentures (CCDs) worth Rs 7,778 crore, along with a balance payment of Rs 86 crore in share warrants. The total investment reaches Rs 18,365 crore, which will elevate OPaL to the status of a subsidiary of ONGC, with a 95.69 percent equity stake. This move, besides strengthening ONGC's position in the petrochemical sector will also provides a clear roadmap for OPaL's future operations. The GoI has also permitted the allocation of 50 percent of the annual gas production from new wells or well interventions in ONGC's nomination fields, or up to 3.2 mmscmd of natural gas, whichever is lower. This will help provide essential feedstock support to OPaL, with pricing set at 20 percent above the Administered Price Mechanism (APM) price.

Had a enriching meeting with Hon'ble Dy Chief Minister Odisha. We discussed areas of interest for Odisha and specially the issues of Power sector especially when Odisha is already power surplus. DERMs, Miro grid, islanded grids and integrated micro grids besides vertical wind mill were his interest. We discussed at length on employment generation opportunities in power sector and improving carbon footprints besides hedging risks of transmission being in the periphery of this large country. Mining also became a subject of discussion and knowledge sharing on how EDBMS can be implemented for the betterment was of interest. #sooneesushilkumar

To fuel the booming EV industry in India, the government's decision to lower the Basic Customs Duty (BCD) and exempt critical minerals from custom charges is a big push to further strengthen the industry. By facilitating the import of necessary materials for battery manufacturing and recycling, this initiative will lower COGS and increase the accessibility of electric cars (EVs). The recycling industry has futuristic prospects to contribute significantly to strengthen the Indian economy and advance sustainable development.
