From 1442 to 1714 in just one month! 📈 Upstep Academy's Siddhant Tewari has boosted his Classical FIDE rating by a whopping 272 points in the latest FIDE rating list! Along the way, he secured runner-up in one tournament and third place in another. First up was the Go Checkmate 7th FIDE Rated Tournament in Singapore. The 12-year-old, currently living in Singapore, entered as the 12th seed among 19 participants. Despite his modest starting rank and an early loss in round 2, Siddhant scored an impressive 5/6 points. What stood out was that all five of his wins in the tournament came against higher-rated opponents! Siddhant ultimately took a fantastic second place, raising his rating by 136 points. His next challenge was the 2nd The Rooky International Open in Thailand, where he competed in the Challenger group. This event was even tougher, drawing players from 11 countries, with Siddhant seeded 22nd among 39 players. Once again, Siddhant scored 5 points over 7 rounds, with all five wins against higher-rated opponents. He led the tournament going into the final round, and although a last-game loss dropped him to third place, it was still an amazing result. Coincidentally, this performance amounted to another gain of 136 points. In the end, his October rating jump totalled an outstanding 272 points! Siddhant has been training with Upstep Academy for nearly four years. Having joined us as an Intermediate level student, he has diligently progressed through the levels. Currently, he is a part of Upstep Academy's performance training, with an emphasis on targeted training and regular tournament participation. What makes Siddhant's achievement even more remarkable is his patience during stagnant times. Over the past 20 months, he didn’t see much gain in his classical rating, but he stayed committed to our training regime, focused on building his chess skills, and kept competing.
