Heartfelt gratitude to Vikesh Wallia and to the wonderful organization of Board Stewardship for extending an invitation as a special Invitee for the Board Stewardship Conference on 'Boards as Stewards of Sustainability’ @Bombay Stock Exchange Convention Hall on Tues. 19th Nov’24. A meaningful, purposeful, and impactful event worth many more times the time and effort invested. Vikesh ji’s commitment and connect to the contribution of Board Stewardship in developing Competent Boards as an enabler to India’s Trillions of $ economy was on full display, and to be honest contagious as well. Shailesh Haribhakti Ji’s talk on “Integrated Thinking” bared the need to extend my thinking. When I am in the Boardroom, I now feel the need to discuss not just financials and compliances but also include artificial intelligence, digital handshake, and handover. Reflecting, as he was speaking, I know I can add more value to my board, especially as an Independent Director. Speeches from Helle Bank, Founder & CEO Competent Boards, Canada and Rajeev Peshawaria, CEO Stewardship Asia Centre, President Leadership Energy Consulting, Singapore, was very informative. I quite agreed with Rajeev’s opinion on Stewardship values of interdependence, long term view, creating positive resilience and organizational value. The most interesting part of his talk was on if ‘G’ of ‘ESG’ can ensure action under ‘E’ & ’S’. He built a good logical case for focusing on ‘ESL’ where ‘L’ stands for Leadership ‘Steward Leadership’.   A few months ago, Vikesh ji was kind enough to include me in a survey being conducted by Stewardship Asia Centre, Singapore. This was a study done on boards across may countries. Had a good interaction with Sunil Puri, Thought Leader, Data Scientist, Head of Research Stewardship Asia Centre, Singapore, and his colleague then. I thought that was the first and last of it. It was a wonderful surprise to see Sunil present the research findings. This report is freely available at BOARDS AS STEWARDS OF SUSTAINABILITY (https://lnkd.in/dz4Uu26N) as a simple downloadable file. Check out the “What We Learnt’ section from pg 11 to 38, it is the heart of the report. The panel discussions were also good and informative. Wonderful learning sessions. It is good to be sitting with the audience, engaging with the speakers, reflecting on their perspectives, and reexamining your own realm of understanding. I did come out a bit wiser that what I had gone in being. Thank you Vikesh Wallia ji, Shailesh Haribhakti [GCB.D] ji, Helle Bank Jørgensen, GCB.D, CCB.D and NACD.DC, Rajeev Peshawaria, Sunil Puri, Anirban Ghosh, Shalini Singh and to this wonderful organization of Board Stewardship for the opportunity to learn from you. It was a good opportunity to reconnect with some old colleagues, friends build on my network. God Bless and Stay Blessed.
