  • The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) annually celebrates the BIS Foundation Day on 6th January to commemorate the day on which BIS came into existence. As part of the 77th BIS Foundation day celebrations, the Southern Regional Laboratory of Bureau of Indian Standards, Chennai organized an awareness session for a team of CPWD engineers about the recent initiatives launched and developments made by BIS and discussion on QCOs(Quality Control Orders) related to Building materials. Anil Kumar Pillai (SGM- Technical Services) was the special technical speaker at the event. Anil spoke about the Challenges & Solutions in Concreting, Brickwork and Plastering.   Here's a link to his thoughts and the future trends in construction. https://lnkd.in/dAT5SzMq #Ramco #RamcoCements #construction #cementindustry

CPWD & BIS as part of the BIS foundation day celebration at Chennai on January 6th.An awareness program on the various codes by BIS lead by Dr Meenakshi Ganesan of BIS &special address by Er Rajesh Khare of CPWD for the CPWD Engineers was held . I got the opportunity to deliberate on the challenges faced by various professionals in the area of concreting and plastering.Although the relevance of usage of blended cements from the perspective of durability and sustainability is well known to all professionals , still lot of work needs to be done at the site level to make concrete structures durable thereby ensuring a longer service life.A structure free of deterioration and the need for maintenace is required to prolong the life of concrete structures. Maintenance of concrete structures is not given the importance that is required to be given.Imperfection in practices and lack of enforcement of codal provisions at construction sites lead to dampness and leakage of concrete structures. Also the type of cements to be used based on the requirement of concrete grades , both in fresh and hardened state needs to be examined by stakeholders of a project. Is there a separate product and application required for plastering? Differences in requirements of products in plastering and concreting requires attention at site level. We at Ramco Cements have been emphasizing on tests like water retentivity, air content for plastering mortar through various tests. These have been appreciated by construction professionals who have used Ramco Super Plaster for plastering works .Also the usage of Ramco Supercrete for concreting works because of its properties like low heat of hydration, higher rate of gain of strength were discussed. The MACE team at Ramco Cements have been propagating the usage of better practices to ensure good concreting practices which ultimately ensures durablity in concrete.
