DPL currently has around 3,000 employees on its rolls. "Our focus is to revive the DPL," Chatterjee said. According to official sources, DPL's distribution and transmission departments would be transferred to the West Bengal State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd and the West Bengal Electricity Transmission Company Ltd. With a total capacity of 660 MW, the state-owned DPL is one of the most important industrial units in the Durgapur-Asansol belt. The company has been dependent on power generation for revenue after its coke-oven unit stopped operations last year.
