From being thrown out while pregnant to becoming mother to 2100+ children! Sindhutai Sapkal was a victim of child marriage. At just 20, she was a mother of two children. She spoke out against the injustice that led to her being thrown out of her house. She gave birth in a cowshed. Cut the umbilical cord with a stone. She had to beg on railway platforms to feed herself and her child. Once she heard a beggar pleading for water. She gave him food and water and saved his life. This moment inspired her to dedicate her life to helping the helpless and destitute. She saw many orphaned and destitute children struggling to survive on the streets. She decided to adopt them. Sindhutai provided them with food, shelter, and education. She started an NGO and raised them as her own. She even gave up her biological daughter to an orphanage to ensure all her children felt equally loved. Sindhutai raised over 2,100 children in 45 years. She was awarded Padma Shri in 2021 for her work. Today, she's known as the Mother of Orphans.
