🌟 10 Years, 10 Learnings My Journey as a Founder of Sunrise Learning- a special school 🌟 13 years ago - When my son Poorab was denied admission to 17 mainstream schools in Delhi with varied  excuses, I knew that even if being a doctor and Neuroscience expert i did not have solutions for my son ,SOMETHING had to be done. What started as a dream in a two-room structure - a play group that blossomed into an ELC  has today grown into a vibrant place that 120+ special children, their parents and their educators proudly call their second home !! We’ve touched over 3,000 lives in the past decade. Here are my top 10 learnings: 1. Believe in ability Vs the deficit  -Every child has unique strengths. -Focus on abilities to open doors. 2. Community Matters -Build a supportive community. -Together, we create a nurturing environment. 3. Adaptability is Key -Challenges will arise. -Be flexible to find solutions. 4. Education is Empowerment -Right education helps children navigate the world. -Knowledge is a powerful tool. 5. Advocacy is Essential -Speak up for our children. -Raise awareness and foster inclusion. 6. Build Strong Systems -Create structures and processes. -Focus on what truly matters—our children. 7. Celebrate Every Milestone -Every achievement deserves recognition. -Celebrating progress motivates everyone. 8. Stay Positive -A positive attitude transforms challenges. -Optimism fuels our commitment. 9. Never Stop Learning -Education doesn’t end. -Continuous learning helps us improve. 10. Dedication Brings Change -Hard work drives meaningful change. -Passion creates a brighter future. As we celebrate 10 years of Sunrise Learning, I am filled with gratitude. A really thoughtful, informative and thorough article on AuDHD (co-occuring ADHD & Autsim) by Siân Boyle for The Guardian. It used to be thought that if you had ADHD or Autism it precluded you from living with the other condition. Thankfully the DSM was updated in 2013 to acknowledge that you can have both, and we now know that it is actually common to have both conditions alongside each other. Sian writes: 'When autism meets ADHD, it’s a curious form of alchemy, according to those who have both. Sometimes the conditions are in conflict; at other times they’re symbiotic.' She shares the story of Dr Khurram Sadiq, a psychiatrist who lives with both. He says that 'there is no such thing as a perfect 50/50 split ... and the brain is often “seesawing” between both conditions.'' In his Ted Talk, “When Order and Anarchy Live Together”, Dr Sadiq tells his personal story, describing the dualities of the condition; silence v noise; structure v chaos; repetition v novelty; caution v risk-taking. (Here is the link fyi https://lnkd.in/eZs4eBqE) Full of insight from lived experience, Sian tells her readers about the: "colourful analogies to describe the epiphany of diagnosis" she heard from those she interviewed, for example 'it’s as if you are trying to fit in and be a horse rather than celebrating the fact that you’re a zebra' or 'it’s like being trapped in a maze in the dark, then suddenly the lights are on and now there’s a way to navigate out'. One of those interviewed, Samantha Stein said: “I think in some ways [AuDHD] can be a very beautiful thing ......You just need the right support to be able to access those parts of you. And you need the label to know what the hell is going on in your brain.” Sam has made a great video on her YouTube channel specifically identifying the things that may suggest you are living with both conditions.
