When did you first learn about menstruation? 🩸 These 6th and 8th-grade students participated in a session that encouraged healthy conversations about menstruation. As part of our Menstrual Health and Hygiene program, facilitators shared their experiences, creating an open and supportive dialogue. The focused group discussions helped children track their cycles, observe patterns, and understand potential causes of irregularities, such as stress, sleep, and diet. Such important conversations need to start early. Support our initiative to create more such opportunities for them. Designing contextual education solutions for children in tribal areas and conflict zones.
About us
Shiksharth is a not-for-profit organisation working towards improving the quality of education in rural and tribal areas through action-based research, design and implementation. And to make that happen we need to break the language and contextualpedagogy barrier in schools leading to better learning outcomes for children. The core philosophy of the project is based on Mahatma Gandhi’s philosophy of community taking ownership of its institutions. And to make that happen we need to engage the communities in our schools at more customised, contextual and transaction level. And hence operationally we work as an 'immersed initiative' instead of functioning in project mode which means proximity to the beneficiary and problem becomes the highlight of our work with a commitment and patience to serve for a longer duration.

As part of Shiksharth's project of 'Learning Labs' in Burdi village of Sukma district, we have worked on the initiative of organizing a public movie screening and a community gathering session that not only brought the village together but also gave us a valuable opportunity to interact with parents and other community members in a meaningful way. Learning Labs & Community Spaces: At Shiksharth, we believe that learning extends far beyond the four walls of a classroom. The spaces are designed to be dynamic and where the community and the school ecosystem can collaborate to develop and enable holistic learning and growth of children. These informal gatherings in Burdi have offered us a chance to showcase how informal spaces can become hubs of knowledge-sharing, and creativity, and a window for us to understand the socio-cultural world of the child. Today, on International Migrants Day, let's remember that the right to education is a fundamental human right and not enclosed by borders. For migrant children, access to quality education can be a significant challenge. Shiksharth is working in the tribal communities of Sukma and Bastar to help children affected by disruptions in schooling, language barriers, cultural differences, discrimination and natural calamities. Let's work together to build a world where every child, regardless of their background or circumstances, has the opportunity to reach their full potential. What if children could design their schools? We asked the children of Sukma, and their answers filled us with inspiration. What they value most is nature outside the classroom, where they feel most connected and alive. This newsletter is packed with heartwarming stories of resilience, compassion, and meaningful partnerships that are shaping the future of education in challenging contexts. It has acts of kindness by children during Daan Utsav, a new partnership with Shikshagraha, recognition for our work in sustainability and menstrual health, and so much more! Don't miss these highlights and more in our latest newsletter! #Newsletter Ashish Shalini Shrivastava Pavan Deshmukh Gautam Jha Mohit Dev DURGA KUMARI Mohineesh Bhatjiwale Kunwar Akanksha Thansing Verma Sanika Kedar Kaushal Kishor Wrivu Sanyal

In conflict-affected tribal areas, where life is often marked by challenges, reconnecting with nature offers children peace and curiosity. This ecology session with Class 8 students in two schools with our sustainability & ecology fellow Thansing Verma, focused on understanding their senses and exploring their environment: -We discussed how our senses help us experience the world. -'Nature Zine', we did a creative activity too where students observed and described the nature around them. - We also went exploring the campus, using our senses to notice the textures, smells, and colours of trees and plants. Activities like these help rediscover the beauty in our surroundings, and connect to their cultural roots—all vital in areas shaped by adversity. Small moments can leave lasting impacts.
