  • Zara, under its parent company Inditex, has set ambitious sustainability goals to be achieved by 2025. Here’s a summary of their key initiatives: • Sustainable Fabrics: By 2025, Zara aims for 100% of its cotton, linen, and polyester to be organic, more sustainable, or recycled. • Renewable Energy: The company plans for 80% of the energy consumed in its headquarters, logistics centers, and stores to come from renewable sources by 2025. • Plastic Reduction: Inditex has committed to eliminating single-use plastics for customers by 2023. • Circular Economy: Zara launched its ‘Pre-Owned’ platform in 2022, offering services for repairing, reselling, or donating used garments, promoting a circular economy model. While these targets are ambitious, Zara has made notable progress: • The ‘Pre-Owned’ platform has expanded to 16 markets, with plans to reach all key markets by 2025. • As of 2023, all electricity consumed in Inditex’s facilities comes exclusively from renewable sources. However, some critics argue that Zara’s fast-fashion business model inherently challenges sustainability efforts. Concerns have been raised about the environmental impact of rapid production cycles and overconsumption. In summary, Zara has set concrete sustainability goals and has made progress toward achieving them. The effectiveness of these initiatives in fully transforming the company’s environmental impact will become clearer as the 2025 deadline approaches.

  • Watch as she changes over a dozen outfits in just one minute, embodying the essence of ‘real fashion’—or should we say, fast fashion at its finest. The speed of her wardrobe swaps perfectly mirrors the industry’s obsession with trends that expire faster than your morning coffee. It’s not just clothes she’s shedding; it’s a glimpse into a culture of overproduction, exploitation, and waste, all wrapped up in a stylish façade. Because who cares about the planet when you can slay 12 looks in 60 seconds, right?

  • We must transition to clothing made from natural fibers, or we risk endangering not only our lives but also the future of our children. The time to act is now! While it may not be easy, it is undeniably one of the most crucial steps we can take for humanity and the planet. At Handlooom.com, in collaboration with the Save Handloom Foundation, our mission is to turn this vision into reality.

  • A nostalgic video of Aamir Khan and Kareena Kapoor Khan enjoying a meal with a weaver’s family in Chanderi has surfaced, taken during the filming of 3 Idiots. During this visit, while having food from a weavers family, Aamir proposed the idea of establishing a handloom shop for local weavers to showcase their handmade products in Mumbai. He suggested that the shop could be named after both him and Kareena Kapoor Khan to draw more visitors and encourage other weavers to contribute their products. However, it remains unclear whether this initiative was ever implemented. Does anyone know if the shop was launched and is currently operational?

  • I had the privilege of conducting a seminar on “Leveraging Blockchain Technology to Eliminate Counterfeit Handloom Products” for representatives of all Kerala handloom cooperative societies. The session was held during the cluster meeting at the Directorate of Handloom & Textiles Head Office in Trivandrum on 27th November. I extend my heartfelt gratitude to Director K.S Anil Kumar. for inviting me to share insights with the esteemed handloom cluster team members.
