In the world of research, access to existing knowledge, past studies, and industrial case studies plays a critical role in driving innovation and discovery. Research papers serve as one of the most significant gateways to this wealth of information. Here’s a basic understanding of the One Nation One Subscription (ONOS) initiative: 1. Traditionally, prestigious journals are accessible through annual institutional subscriptions, allowing researchers to publish their work without incurring any costs. 2. Open-access journals, however, operate on a different model. They charge researchers an Article Processing Charge (APC) to publish articles, while making the content freely available to readers. 3. The ONOS initiative bridges these approaches. The government has collaborated with publishers to provide free access to approximately 13,000 journals for public institutions. This ensures publishers are compensated while democratizing access to invaluable research resources.
