  • Can content writers get new clients using LinkedIn?   You can meet your career goals and monthly targets of paying clients.   Linkedin is a very niche platform for content writers to showcase their services. Bloggers, article writers, book editors, e-manual proofreaders, and web content developers can use this platform to seek serious clients.   Did you know there are at least 7 new ways LinkedIn is a go-to medium compared to other platforms and networking sites?   LinkedIn is a professional website where you can officially ask for work and not get blocked or spammed. You already know other social media sites where this is happening even if it is paid. Many people on LinkedIn login for business and not just seeking friendship. This is one place where a female writer can ask a male client, “Can I get in touch with you.” No holds barred!   More than 600 million users (maybe more) use LinkedIn to network and trade globally. All you need is an attractive profile and a body of experience… and you are off the starting block! Even new freelance writers have got gigs once they have made a profile on this site.   PS: Did it work for you? Let me know in the comments.   Stay focused on your goals… to get clients and not gossip (make comments, share, or like random posts). You are here for a reason and don’t get distracted. Get clients and not other writers to the post!   If you have a niche field of writing stick to it. For example, if you are blogging for the finance industry try to attract clients from this sector. Diversify as much, but keep focused on getting paid clients ONLY. It will reflect on your seriousness.    On weekends you may like to take a break and write only about your writing skills and style. Maybe create a buzz about a new skill or narrate a story. It reflects on work-life balance. It adds muscle to your passion for writing. You can write about how you completed a project, bagged a new one, used a new content writing tool, or a challenge that was overcome.   Last tip: Avoid, screaming for new clients. We all are professionals and need projects to survive. Making it explicit is not useful. You may end up attracting low-paying clients who will take advantage of the situation.

  • Headline Analyzers   When you need clickable SEO headlines, it is essential to use a headline analyzer. Do you know that almost 50 data points are used to make it viable for a content writer? An attractive headline compels one to read and also comment sometimes. Any headline is written online for SEO score, readability, attractiveness, and sentiment. Only a clickbait title will not get the right responses from readers.   What makes you write a title?   Emotionally appealing? With hardcore facts and figures? Shocking or sensational to the reader?   Many tools are used to write better headlines.   Use CoSchedule’s headline analyzer Rank Brain Sharethrough Blogabout Answer the Public   Do you use any of these in 2024?

  • Stop blogging right away!   It is a time-wasting exercise for a professional writer. Worse, personal blogs suck. STOP. Blogging is vanity and at the bottom rung. And it does not pay either! Google has stopped recognizing cheap content and blogging is one of them. It does not help in SEO nor does it get clients.   But write about:   Articles that pay well and regularly. It builds a better reputation for you as a writer. (Secret: I have never blogged, ever). Articles published by clients are prestigious and get you more work. Get respect. Corporate clients are hiring writers for niche content. Be a part of this bandwagon.  Article format is the future for us. Long-frame pillar articles that are researched have arrived. Could you make it a part of your portfolio?   Yes, I am already doing it and it pays handsomely.

  • I am not a text filler for a website   Web content creation is much more than writing a company’s vision/mission and services. Today it is more about expanding the digital footprint and helping the client to maximize their brand.   Often there is no need for an elaborate story either. Creating the right graphics and blending the text adds more panache. I give much more than the text. I visualize and give a presentation which defines the content and its intent.   Who agrees with me?

  • What did I learn from a soaring eagle? 1.    Have a keen eyesight. Eagles have foresight and never are caught unaware by predators. It helps in editing articles and blogs. With no mistakes content is accepted by the client and payment issues are reduced.    Lesson: Don’t underestimate the client and his vision.   2.    Fly high and soar above all. Eagles fly higher than any other bird. They are separate from other avian species.   I fly high by honing my skills. I have to be distinct from the regular content writers. More so because COVID-19 has sprouted fly-by-night writers! I prefer to offer quality through the ability to rise above the clutter and noise.   Lesson: Superior class is way above, effortless and only a few can reach.   3.    Fearless and focused. The eagles never give up. They are focused on their goals. Strategies are fearless and unique. I do not believe in registering with websites where I have to pay and get work. Many clients are referrals of other customers who enjoy my services. I focus on providing extra services, and invest in sampling (most writers do not unless paid).   Lesson: Challenges come and I need to be prepared…sometimes even for rejection as other writers charge less. But I am focused and fearless. I know some clients come back when they realize what separates me from others.   4.    Retreat for energy. An eagle retreats on a mountaintop after the age of 30 years to regain vitality to fly again. It plucks its feathers and knocks off the beak by beating it against the rocks.   I like to retreat as well to refresh my skills, energy and interest in work. I travel, paint and cook. Nothing like visiting a new country and learning something like paragliding or meditating. It is amazing and I return with more energy to work.   Lesson: Don’t be afraid to take a break from work. There is nothing to lose. Get back into the field with renewed vigour.   5.    Nurture the new generation. Eagles are known to take care of their young ones. They help them grow till they are strong and can fly high. A slow eaglet is taught differently. Mother eagle destroys the nest and leaves it to learn on a mountain cliff until the fear passes and it flies.   I cannot keep my knowledge to myself. I like to share with eager writers who want to make careers out of writing. I dare new writers to be patient, tolerant and listen. I invest in their success only when they are interested. I want history to be kind to me.     Lesson: It is compulsory to fly and know how to negotiate your life. As a mentor, I cannot hand-hold all writers. They need to move on and spread their wings. I try to empower them, teach them to be fearless and value disciplines associated with writing.   Let's fly higher.
