Pee Safe has partnered with Manchu Lakshmi Prasanna’s NGO Teach For Change to execute a menstrual health and hygiene initiative in Telangana. The collaboration specifically targeted adolescent girls in government schools across three districts: Narayanpet, Mahabubnagar, and Ranga Reddy. The program reached 6,000 girls from classes 8 to 12 across 10 mandals. The core focus of this initiative was the distribution of Pee Safe’s reusable sanitary pads, which were accompanied by a one-hour educational workshop on menstrual health. The workshop addressed important topics such as the menstrual cycle phases, PMS, and common myths surrounding menstruation. A particularly unique aspect of the program was the inclusion of storytelling about the first period, which helped normalize the experience and encouraged open conversations. In addition to providing the pads, the workshop included a hands-on demonstration on how to use and properly clean the reusable pads, ensuring that the girls felt comfortable and confident in using the product. This approach helped break taboos and facilitated a more informed and comfortable menstrual experience for the beneficiaries. The program's second phase will involve follow-up visits to the schools to collect feedback from the girls on the effectiveness and usability of the pads. This will help gauge the program’s success and identify areas for improvement, further enhancing the impact of Pee Safe’s initiative in promoting menstrual hygiene awareness and providing sustainable solutions for adolescent girls.
