*The Magic of Process based OD* The learning multiplies multi-fold when it becomes experiential. And when you get to experience the magic of Process based OD – the understanding of OD and its power moves to the next orbit. ISABS ODCP Batch-15 had a magical experience this week - of experiencing the power of OD through a real time OD project for a client system. For the ISABS ODCP team, it was a dream opportunity when a client system accepted the idea of contracting with the ODCP Batch 15 to do an Application Project with them. Understandably the batch was nervous! They had to do much of their pre-work online, juggling work and personal schedules. They were conscious and aware that they should live up to the trust reposed in them by the client system and their facilitators, who were in turn the holding together the learning needs, the clients needs and the alignment to ISABS core values. The rubber hit the road last week, when the group of 17 got together in-person to shape their plan and methodology for studying the organisation followed by they actually spending time in the client system through intense data collection. Eventually wrestling with the heaps of data gathered to make meaning of it. The client system engaged in this process with enthusiasm and the leadership was eager work with what the OD Consultants had brought ahead for them. There were certainly many aha moments for all of us clients, consultants and facilitators when the team delivered not just to the expectations but way beyond. The magical shifts were are at multiple levels. - A group of 17 consultants emerging from being a group to a cohesive team, in service of the client - A client system exploring the hypotheses presented - The facilitators pushing for rigour and authenticity, at the same time resisting the temptation to ‘tell’ the consultant group what to do. Instead trusting them to learn from doing. And - many out of syllabus moments that can only be experienced to learn from We are in the process of savoring the experience that emerged as we trusted the process. We are indeed very grateful to ALLEN and Jayesh Sampat for this amazing collaboration, where two systems with trust in process based OD met and created history. It all happened when we learnt from moments that were present in the here and now... Thank you, Sudeep, for sharing your impactful experience of moving from "I" to "me" and using self as an instrument of change. This is what makes the ODCP a unique and powerful learning process. As Richard Branson said, “You don't learn to walk by following rules. You learn by doing, and by falling over.” This resonates deeply with the transformative journey of learning through practice, embracing challenges, and creating meaningful change. Transformative learning through practice, embracing challenges, and driving meaningful change is the essence of ISABS ODCP. “You don't learn to walk by following rules. You learn by doing, and by falling over.”—Richard Branson. Rightly quoted so, after studying Organization Development for about a year, it was time to put theory into practice and learn from the experience. The journey from "I" to "me" was transformative, embodying the principle of “Self as an instrument of change.” It was a bold move by the #ISABS #ODCP facilitators to bet on us — still learning, but ready to work on live systems with inherent risks and high stakes. From sharing the initial problem statement to planning the intervention, data gathering, meaning-making, and sharing working hypotheses, the client was actively engaged and invested. The intervention succeeded when the client system took ownership of their problems. I’m immensely grateful to the facilitators Payal Gupta (she/her), Ameet Mattoo and Lalitha Iyer for their trust. Thanks to team ALLEN and Jayesh Sampat for this opportunity and confidence in us to tackle a live issue. And a big cheer to the #Batch15 cohort members Deepak Magal Rao, Nidhi Vashishth, PhD, Isha Shingte, Sanjeev Tripathi, Soumya Kanungo, Chippy Diac Vivekanandah, Punam Bhardwaj, Tejal Marwa, Shelly Kawatra, Akshada Nerurkar, AVANTEE RATHA, Sridevi Govindarajan, Ph.D., Srividya Natarajan, Dr. Shiji Lyndon for making this possible. This experience created a strong drive within the client to own and resolve their issues. This is the magic of the process of #cocreation and the #ProcessualOD. A big thanks to mukul s. joshi and Rahoul Joshii for their support in my learning journey.

Mukul Joshi’s post invites us to reflect deeply on how we see the world—our frame, lens, and angle. It’s not just about what we capture, but also about our perspective, our truth. Through experiential learning, reflective processes and group explorations, ODCP helps participants not only refine their perspectives but also amplify their impact in their personal and professional lives. What I perceive and the details of my picture depend on - Frame, Lens, Angle. What's my focus will give me clarity of the background as well as the foreground. In the picture below, what's my focus - the flower or the sun or both.. Is it just about a snap or is it also about what I capture in my reference frame which in turn impacts what I do? How clear and relevant is our lens to the frame? What are my conscious and unconscious processes that color my lens and biases that create a default angle? Whats my truth default? How can I be more effective OD professional?.. For such and more explorations, at the group and self level, join #ISABSODCP. Over the years, I have felt comfort and safety in belonging to organizations. My school was a happy place for me with friends and a cycle of events! College was more chaotic, with less ‘teaching’ and gave me the freedom to be. Entering the workforce, I joined a bank driven by a ‘book of instructions’. In each of these settings, I knew what I should do and I quickly picked up unsaid rules as well. Yet I never thought about how it all came together. Till one day, 10 years into my banking career, I was posted to a department called Organizational Planning. I found it fascinating that there was an academic base for how we did what we did. And I dug into reports , stories and anecdotes about ‘re-organization’ of our bank led by Professors like Ishwar Dayal Udai Pareek and T V Rao. I picked up a few textbooks on Organizational Behavior and Organizational Development (OB & OD). Just as I was warming up to it, I was transferred to another position! It seemed as if learning OD is like a being an Alchemist’s Apprentice. My interest in OD remained and I found myself drawn to it again and again. And the system too had a way of keeping track of OD buffs like me when we were needed… This trip down memory lane is triggered when I think about the opportunities for learning OD today. There are many short term academic courses, and the more immersive ISABS ODCP that I now have the opportunity to be part of. So, if you are, like me all those years ago, fascinated by the way organisations form, grow, change, evolve, I invite you to look at ODCP seriously. It is a learning platform which nudges you to absorb the knowledge base and begin applying it in many spheres. For a midcareer professional, just discovering that there is a body of knowledge and a bundle of processes to work on organisational change and development, ODCP offers a great launch pad . And here are the top three reasons you must take it up to learn or enlarge your understanding of OD · You get to learn the rich variety of ways OD is practiced from actual practitioners · You get to try your own stuff with ample guidance and support on how you could do it · You find mentors and peers who walk with you beyond the formal program cycle as you build your capacity to do Od work. The most important secret reason I recommend this--- it is all great fun!!!!
