India's pioneering knowledge platform for water & related issues!
About us
India Water Portal is a website that shares knowledge and builds communities around water and related issues in India. Managed by Arghyam, the Portal has become a valuable archive of resources, working papers, reports, data, articles, news, events, opportunities and discussions on water. Water is a very local topic. Surely you have had a personal experience with water, whether positive or negative at some point. India Water Portal is a platform that empowers you to share experiences and solutions, talk to experts, join conversations and learn about the work that others are doing to conserve our fast depleting water resources. India Water Portal was encouraged by the National Knowledge Commission, which proposed the need for knowledge portals in various areas back in 2005. Since then, it has evolved in the spirit of openness and sharing, to become one of the foremost sources of information in India for water, sanitation, agriculture, the environment, climate change, biodiversity, and other related thematic areas. India Water Portal is managed and run by a team based all over India. It is supported by Arghyam, a philanthropic trust that works in water and sanitation.

Every year, devotees gather on the #Yamuna’s banks for Chhath Puja, offering prayers amidst the toxic #foam that blankets the river. Sharat from our team captured this stark juxtaposition of devotion and pollution, documenting the paradox of faith performed in a polluted river. While the Yamuna flows just 54 km through #Delhi, the 22 km stretch from #Wazirabad to #Okhla—less than 2% of its length—bears a staggering 76% of the city’s pollution load. India Water Portal reposted this
Having been involved with the Maharashtra Government's scheme - Gaalmukt Dharan Gaalyukt Shivar since its launch in 2017, I’ve witnessed firsthand the profound impact it has had on communities, reinforcing my belief that successful programs must be built from ground up with active community ownership. Government involvement is key to enabling scale, ensuring resources and support reach those who need them most. For me personally in my work, transitioning from on-ground implementation support to building tech infrastructure has been an enriching learning curve, offering insights into scalability and sustainability. The most fulfilling part of this journey has been supporting individuals like Ashok and Subhash and many more, whose resilience and determination inspire me to continue contributing to impactful change in the years ahead. Thank you India Water Portal for this opportunity and the team at A.T.E. Chandra Foundation for all the support! :) https://lnkd.in/dq2C5vAY

💧 Bottled water demand is surging amid safety concerns over drinking water. In 2023, global production hit $270 billion, with rapid urbanization driving growth, especially in the Global South. 🌍💸 While larger companies use advanced filtration, smaller firms often rely on basic methods, raising questions about quality. The popular methos - Reverse Osmosis (RO) raises environmental concerns due to wastewater and mineral removal. The need for regulation is clear, with many rural areas lacking proper testing. Meanwhile, groundwater extraction is creating conflicts with local communities, spotlighting the urgent need for sustainable practices. 🌿💧 Read the full article—click the link in the bio! #BottledWater #WaterQuality #Urbanization #SustainableDevelopment #EnvironmentalImpact #WaterScarcity #plasticfree #india #river #waterconservation #nature #indiawaterportal #waterforlife
