New Study Compares MAS and MDCTSI for Acute Gallstone-Induced Pancreatitis Prognosis This study compares the Modified Atlanta Score (MAS) and the Modified CT Severity Index (MDCTSI) in assessing the severity of acute gallstone-induced pancreatitis. MAS, based on clinical and biochemical markers, is evaluated against MDCTSI, the imaging-based gold standard, to determine which method is more effective in predicting patient outcomes. Key Highlights: -MAS shows high sensitivity for identifying mild cases (98.63%) and excellent specificity for moderate (100%) and severe cases. -Both MAS and MDCTSI correlate strongly in predicting disease severity. Results: -MAS is a reliable tool, offering high sensitivity and specificity for all severity categories. -MAS correctly identifies severe pancreatitis, with comparable performance to MDCTSI. Conclusion: MAS is a practical and cost-effective bedside tool for early assessment in acute pancreatitis. It provides accurate prognostic value, making it an excellent alternative to MDCTSI, especially in settings with limited access to imaging. Every 10 minutes, a woman is killed. #NoExcuse UNiTE to End Violence against Women Violence against women and girls remains one of the most prevalent and pervasive human rights violations in the world. Globally, almost one in three women have been subjected to physical and/or sexual intimate partner violence, non-partner sexual violence, or both, at least once in their life. For at least 51,100 women in 2023, the cycle of gender-based violence ended with one final and brutal act—their murder by partners and family members. That means a woman was killed every 10 minutes. This scourge has intensified in different settings, including the workplace and online spaces, and has been exacerbated by conflicts, and climate change. The solution lies in robust responses, holding perpetrators accountable, and accelerating action through well-resourced national strategies and increased funding to women’s rights movements. CONJOINED TWINS Conjoined fetuses are a rare type of identical twins that share a placenta and an amniotic sac, when the embryo divides at 13-15 days from conception. The incidence ranges from 1/50,000-1/100,000 live births. Female fetuses are more commonly affected, as the ratio of female to male is 3:1. No association with maternal age, race, parity, or heredity has been observed, and the recurrence risk is negligible. WORLD CONJOINED TWINS DAY Recognizing that the case of conjoined twins is a rare condition where the estimated incidence can be 1 in 50,000 births, the General Assembly decided to proclaim 24 November as World Conjoined Twins Day. The Assembly emphasized the need to address the condition of conjoined twins, by raising awareness of their cases at all levels and through a life-course approach, in cooperation with relevant United Nations agencies and other stakeholders, as well as by advocating for their well-being and social inclusion, while taking into account relevant agreed international standards, norms and principles. New Research article is out. "Improve Concrete Properties with Nano Silica" Concrete faces challenges like low tensile strength and poor resistance to environmental stress. Nano-silica (nano-SiO2) can enhance concrete by improving its microstructure, reducing porosity, and increasing strength. Its small particle size and high surface area contribute to better water absorption, reduced slump, and faster setting times. Key Points: -Nano-SiO2 improves mechanical properties and durability. I-t alters concrete's microstructure, filling voids and reducing porosity. -It reduces slump and shortens setting time. Results Experiments show that nano-SiO2: - Increases strength: Compressive, flexural, and tensile strengths improve due to enhanced packing density and C-S-H gel formation. -Improves durability: Reduced permeability and porosity result in better resistance to environmental factors. -Optimizes workability: Reduces slump and shortens setting time. The optimal nano-SiO2 concentration is 1% to 4% by cement weight, beyond which benefits decrease.
