We advised Sai Life Sciences Ltd (the “Company”) and SAI QUEST SYN PRIVATE LIMITED (the “Promoter Selling Shareholder”) as their legal counsel as to the Indian law on the initial public offering of 55,421,123 equity shares of the Company aggregating to ₹30,426.20 million (the “Offer”) comprising of a fresh issue of 17,304,189 equity shares aggregating to ₹9,500.00 million by the Company and an offer for sale of 38,116,934 equity shares aggregating to ₹20,926.20 million by the selling shareholders. Jodhpur ITAT recently ruled that an Infosys employee who purchased Bitcoin using his salary should pay capital gains tax at 20% rate and also claim section 54F tax exemption after he sold the Bitcoin for Rs 6.69 crore. The Income Tax Department wanted this person to pay 30% tax on that more than Rs 6 crore gains but lost the case. In relief to fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) players such as Marico and Bajaj Consumer, the Supreme Court on Wednesday ruled in a 15-year-old dispute that small bottles of coconut oil should be classified as edible oil and taxed at 5%, rejecting the tax department’s demand to classify the oil as hair oil and tax it at 18%.
