  • This week, I had the privilege of speaking at the CII Skill Development & Livelihood - 11th Global Summit on Skill Development in New Delhi. 💡 Some of the key takeaways included: 1️⃣ 𝑰𝒏𝒅𝒊𝒂’𝒔 𝑼𝒏𝒑𝒂𝒓𝒂𝒍𝒍𝒆𝒍𝒆𝒅 𝒀𝒐𝒖𝒕𝒉 𝑨𝒅𝒗𝒂𝒏𝒕𝒂𝒈𝒆: With 600 million of our 1.4 billion population under the age of 25 and 65% under 35, India has a unique opportunity to lead in 𝓫𝓻𝓪𝓲𝓷 𝓬𝓲𝓻𝓬𝓾𝓵𝓪𝓽𝓲𝓸𝓷 globally. 2️⃣ 𝑰𝒏𝒅𝒖𝒔𝒕𝒓𝒚-𝑨𝒄𝒂𝒅𝒆𝒎𝒊𝒂 𝑷𝒂𝒓𝒕𝒏𝒆𝒓𝒔𝒉𝒊𝒑𝒔: 𝑩𝒓𝒊𝒅𝒈𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑮𝒂𝒑 India’s traditional education system, with its roots in theoretical learning, has created a legacy focused on rote memorization and academic achievement, often at the cost of developing practical, job-ready skills. This disconnect between academia and industry has created a workforce that is often underprepared for modern demands. For skill-based employment to thrive, we need to shift 𝓯𝓻𝓸𝓶 𝓺𝓾𝓪𝓵𝓲𝓯𝓲𝓬𝓪𝓽𝓲𝓸𝓷-𝓯𝓸𝓬𝓾𝓼𝓮𝓭 𝓮𝓭𝓾𝓬𝓪𝓽𝓲𝓸𝓷 𝓽𝓸 𝓼𝓴𝓲𝓵𝓵𝓼-𝓯𝓲𝓻𝓼𝓽 𝓯𝓻𝓪𝓶𝓮𝔀𝓸𝓻𝓴𝓼. Industry-Academia partnerships can be the bridge. By aligning industry needs with academic output, we can create a workforce ready to lead the future of work. 3️⃣ 𝑬𝒎𝒑𝒍𝒐𝒚𝒂𝒃𝒊𝒍𝒊𝒕𝒚 𝒈𝒐𝒆𝒔 𝒃𝒆𝒚𝒐𝒏𝒅 𝒕𝒆𝒄𝒉𝒏𝒊𝒄𝒂𝒍 𝒔𝒌𝒊𝒍𝒍𝒔: When discussing hiring challenges, I highlighted a few common reasons candidates are overlooked: • Body language: A smile and eye contact go a long way in creating a great first impression. • Storytelling abilities: Ensure that your story is about impact and outcome. Use real examples and relevant anecdotes. • Converting data into actionable insights: you don’t need to be a data scientist to enable data based decision making. Today’s workforce must excel in soft skills, critical thinking, and the ability to connect dots across disciplines. 4️⃣ 𝑭𝒖𝒕𝒖𝒓𝒆 𝑺𝒌𝒊𝒍𝒍𝒔 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝑯𝒊𝒈𝒉-𝑫𝒆𝒎𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑹𝒐𝒍𝒆𝒔: • D̳i̳g̳i̳t̳a̳l̳ ̳a̳n̳d̳ ̳T̳e̳c̳h̳ ̳S̳k̳i̳l̳l̳s̳:̳ AI, ML, data analytics, cybersecurity, and software development • G̳r̳e̳e̳n̳ ̳S̳k̳i̳l̳l̳s̳:̳ Knowledge in renewable energy, circular economy, and environmental engineering • A̳o̳t̳o̳m̳a̳t̳i̳o̳n̳ ̳a̳n̳d̳ ̳R̳o̳b̳o̳t̳i̳c̳s̳:̳ Skills in automation, 3D printing, and IoT • C̳r̳e̳a̳t̳i̳v̳e̳ ̳a̳n̳d̳ ̳P̳r̳o̳b̳l̳e̳m̳-̳S̳o̳l̳v̳i̳n̳g̳ ̳S̳k̳i̳l̳l̳s̳: creativity, critical thinking, and design capabilities in innovation driven sectors • I̳n̳t̳e̳r̳p̳e̳r̳s̳o̳n̳a̳l̳ ̳a̳n̳d̳ ̳L̳e̳a̳d̳e̳r̳s̳h̳i̳p̳ ̳S̳k̳i̳l̳l̳s̳: Emotional intelligence, collaboration, and leadership are universal skills. India stands at a turning point. By nurturing our talent pool, modernizing education, and fostering meaningful partnerships, we can not only meet our domestic demands but also become a global hub for skills and innovation. #SkillIndia #YouthLeadership #GlobalWorkforce #FutureSkills Confederation of Indian Industry Aditya Ghosh #NirmalSingh Mahak Garg Kabir Krishna
