This is a follow-up to the article [ https://lnkd.in/g4_J3XkA ] I previously wrote about the challenges of custom software development. Today, we will look further into a crucial aspect that is frequently ignored: the long-term success of software projects. After working in the tech industry for many years, I have seen numerous projects fail not during development, but in the maintenance stage. The harsh reality is that software requires ongoing attention. It's a living entity that requires constant care. Numerous clients come to software development eagerly, imagining the ideal product. Yet, the initial enthusiasm frequently fades, causing systems to be ignored and potential to go unrealized. The true difficulty lies not in creating software but in developing and sustaining it. When do you require a dedicated team rather than turning to outsourcing? Here's a general guideline: - Outsourcing can be adequate for auxiliary business software. - A dedicated team is essential for core products that users regularly engage with. Why? Because your product is your business. It needs a team that breathes your company's vision and can pivot quickly with market demands. At bytsolv, we've innovated a solution: Product Team as a Service. It's a white-labeled, dedicated engineering team without the overhead of in-house management. Multi-year contracts with monthly billing ensure continuous evolution of your product. Don't let your software become a stagnant asset. Invest in its future. Interested in discovering how a committed team can change the course of your product's development? How about we have a conversation? 🛠 byt.so - Building products with Bytsolv!

We are not hiring! 🔃 When we re-engineered Bytsolv, and started hiring, our priority was to hire people with 1. Good at engineering 2. Mature decisions 3. Respecting the leadership and team-play 4. Affordable for us 5. Sense of responsibility 6. Attention to detail 7. Ethical integrity 8. Adaptability Mostly, if the first 4 is really good, the rest 4 can follow very quickly. These are exactly the same reason why we haven't hired any recent graduates these days. It's hard to find (at-least for me) someone who has at least the first 3 who just came out of college. A person who have worked on his side-projects, communicated with real customers, engaged in team engineering whilst at college, these are crackable. I think I am lost in a place where people talk about work place, balance, mental health, toxic culture (which is definitely necessary 💯) but not about ✅ work ethic, ✅ responsibility, ✅ adaptability and ✅ respect. Is it only me trying to figure out this? Anyone wanna vent with me? 😅

Behind the scenes! #BehindTheScenes #SolutionArchitecture Wireframe scribbling helps a lot in coming up with new ideas! The ideas that come to mind while looking into a problem has a visual format, a face. 🦁 ✍️ I quickly draw such visuals / quick wireframe scibbles and try to articulate that to the clients (business leaders). Most of the times, they quickly relate the scribbles to the problem. This helps me in coming to a clarity on what they need very quickly. Clarity in what we build is essentials, it’s zero burn! 🔥🔥🔥

FOSS at Bytsolv As the majority of the Software Teams, we're heavily dependent on Free and Open Source Software. To name a few we use (or abuse 😂) ERPNext, Frappe, GitLab, Infisical, Cal.com, Inc. We use a variety of programming languages commonly our tech stack revolves around JS/TS, Python, and their frameworks for better DX and velocity. we mostly use SQL databases like SQLite, Postgres, and Mysql also we try out the new managed services like Turso, EdgeDB, etc. We mainly deploy things serverless whenever possible, else we spin up a Linux server and deploy the app containerized using Docker, Since the current scale we handle is not very high, we haven't explored concepts like container orchestration using Kubernetes or Nomad and DB sharding techniques. All the internal tools we use are Open Source except the mailing service, since maintaining a mailing server internally is a hassle and considering the effort-to-output ratio it was better for us to use a managed service and we chose Zoho for this case, we self-hosted gitlab, infisical (env management), vaultwarden (password manager) Mattermost (internal messaging) Erpnext and a few frappeverse apps (for ops and accounting), Hoppscotch and Bruno (API clients, we use them both interchangeably based on the need, proud of them both ♥️) and a few internally built tools that serve our needs. NB: the above lists are just the tip of the iceberg, we use a lot more than these in our day-to-day work. For us, FOSS is not just a tech jargon, it's FOSS heavily influences our foundation, the culture we're building at Bytsolv and its community, it influences the team building, the attitude with which we are approaching a project, the communication style we follow with the clients and the users, etc. The Foss culture is a way of living that anyone can adopt. We're new to FOSS and we're constantly trying to make our contributions to the community. As part of this, we have decided to keep aside an annual budget to support the projects we use heavily and those that need a helping hand, in other ways, we have been building a few pieces of software that might be usable for others, so we're in the process of open-sourcing and on the go if we could contribute anything to the current projects we use, we'll be looking into it as well. I wonder what if the creators of Linux, Postgresql, Giltlab, React, Frappe, and a billion other projects didn't care about open-sourcing their works, how would the dynamics of this software development industry be? That's where the beauty of FOSS lies in and so proud to embrace this beautiful culture.
