Wiz was founded in January 2020 by a team of seasoned entrepreneurs, Assaf Rappaport, Yinon Costica, Roy Reznik, and Ami Luttwak, all of whom had previously founded the successful cloud security company, Adallom. Recognizing the growing complexity and vulnerability of cloud infrastructure, the Wiz founders set out to develop a comprehensive solution that could address the unique security challenges faced by organizations operating in the cloud.
Wiz’s journey to success has been marked by a series of impressive funding rounds and rapid growth. In December 2020, the company emerged from stealth mode by raising $100 million in its Series A round, backed by prominent venture capital firms such as Index Ventures, Sequoia Capital, Insight Partners, and Cyberstarts. This initial funding injection allowed Wiz to accelerate its product development and expand its team.
The momentum continued as Wiz raised an additional $250 million in its Series B and C rounds in 2021, reaching a valuation of $6 billion. These funds were secured from a diverse group of investors, including Index Ventures, Sequoia Capital, Insight Partners, Greenoaks Capital, Salesforce Ventures, and CyberStarts, as well as high-profile individual investors like Bernard Arnault and Howard Schultz.
With its growing war chest, Wiz began to expand its global footprint, with sales and marketing personnel scattered across North America and Europe, while the engineering team remained primarily based in Tel Aviv, Israel.
The company’s researchers have uncovered and responsibly disclosed numerous critical vulnerabilities in cloud services provided by tech giants like Microsoft, Oracle, IBM, and Google. These discoveries, including ChaosDB, OMIGOD, NotLegit, ExtraReplica, AttachMe, Hell’s Keychain, and BingBang, have garnered significant media attention and cemented Wiz’s reputation as a leader in the cloud security space.
Recently, Wiz has turned down a $23 billion takeover bid from Google’s parent, Alphabet, breaking off what would have been the largest acquisition in the search giant’s history
According to market reports Wiz valued at $12 billion.
