Our bio team Galit Mazooz - Perlmuter 🎗 Ph.D Hagit Alon, (PhD) Micha Oestereich showcased cutting-edge technologies from Ben-Gurion University researchers and engaged in a whirlwind of activities. Our team had personal discussions with leading biotech and pharmaceutical companies, entrepreneurs who are seeking to adopt new technologies, venture capitalists, and industry colleagues. Research at the Technion's Faculty of Biology Paves the Way for Innovative Lung Cancer Treatment Researchers at the Technion's Faculty of Biology at Technion - Israel Institute of Technology have unveiled a promising new approach to treat lung cancer, particularly lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD). Led by Prof. Nabieh Ayoub and doctoral student feras machour, with contributions from Dr. Enas Rinawi and Alma Sophia Barisaac, the study was published in Nature Communications and named the Faculty of Biology’s "Article of the Month." Funded by the Israel Cancer Research Fund (ICRF) Research-Fund (ICRF), the research focused on the role of the RBM10 protein in LUAD and identified potential therapeutic targets for RBM10-deficient cancers. Proteins - part 3/5 15 years after Tnuva’s first soy product hit the market, soy milk had become a staple in the refrigerators of startups and high-tech companies across Tel Aviv.  The trend caught on, especially among the young, urban population. Cafes began offering soy milk initially at an extra cost and eventually as a standard option. The key takeaway from this period is that market waves often start with early adopters, typically younger consumers in urban centers that are more climate and sustainability conscious. Their acceptance and demand can drive a product into the mainstream, allowing for broader conversations about its benefits, including nutritional value.  This demand shook up the industry so that more players could enter the market with new technologies and product innovation. We are proud to provide a platform for Israeli companies leading the field of innovation, and to share with you the impressive achievement of the Israeli company aiOla, operating in the field of Speech to Text technology. 🗣️💬 Professor Yossi Keshet, Chief Scientist, Associate Professor in the Faculty of Electrical & Computer Engineering, and a concurrently appointed Professor in the Faculty of Data and Decision Sciences, presented a groundbreaking development of a new AI model called Whisper-Medusa. This model combines aiOla's technology with OpenAI's Whisper model, thereby improving the speed of automatic speech recognition by more than 50% without compromising accuracy. How is this done? aiOla's model is able to predict 10 tokens (data units) simultaneously, while OpenAI's original Whisper model predicts only one token at a time. Professor Keshet explains that in traditional industries, such as medicine, existing transcription systems  are not adapted to recognize words from professional jargon. aiOla is working to bridge this gap  through advanced AI tool solutions that ensure full recognition and integration of jargon words into existing systems. In doing so, the company enables traditional industries to rely on accurate data for more efficient management of interfaces and manpower, using the most advanced AI technology. This development is another expression of Israeli innovation in the field of artificial intelligence. PregnanTech’s Lioness device is placed in the patient during a short outpatient procedure and stays in place throughout the entire pregnancy to help prevent preterm birth. BAIBYS™ Fertility’s technology automates the challenging process of sperm selection for IVF treatments, utilizing AI and micro-robotics. The technology is expected to reduce the time and cost of the selection procedure, which normally requires highly trained medical personnel.
