Rich Products Ventures Invests in Israeli Food Colorants Biotech Startup Nov. 11, 2024 The venture capital arm of Rich Products will study the use of Phytolon’s colorants — made via precision #fermentation — in several of its products after investing in the company. The corporate venture capital arm of Rich Products Corporation — Rich Products Ventures (RPV) — has made an investment in Israeli biotech and food tech startup Phytolon, which produces natural food colors using precision fermentation, according to a release. The investment includes an agreement that Rich’s will explore the company’s proprietary color offerings in several of its products in a mutually non-exclusive manner, the release noted. It is expected that this deal — along with support from existing shareholders in Phytolon — will help drive commercialization and scale-up of Phytolon’s natural, precision-fermented food colorants. The release noted that the food colorants are expected to pass key regulatory approvals “soon,” though it didn’t mention which regulations and nations. The portfolio uses proprietary yeast strains to create natural colorants, which can provide a wide range of shades, including purple, pink, red, orange, and yellow. Animal Syringe Firm unveils new products for Aquaculture A leading Israeli provider of veterinary syringes has unveiled two new automatic products it says will address the specific needs of the fish industry. Petah Tikva-based ThaMa-Vet’s metal, fixed-dosage syringes allow for fast, precise vaccination of #fish and are already in use by several vaccine companies, proving to be highly dependable in vaccinating millions of fish. The single barrel ThaMa 405 is a fixed dosage syringe used for mass treatment of fish. It comes with features needed for wet environment vaccinations, is easy to assemble, and can be used repeatedly. We need to rewrite the terminology used in camel husbandry. It is always very confusing to say #she_camel, #malecamel_calf, #femalecamel_calf, #milkingcamel, etc. it is very confusing. Why not we should use the terminology used for the camels with their domestication? So, the camel was mainly and primarily domesticated in #Arabian_Peninsula, so the terminology, at least the very common and important terms must be written from the #Arabic terms. For example, Lactating camel must be replaced with Naqa. Camel Bull must be replaced by Baeer. A #question is the key to #knowledge and further clarification. Whenever I meet or visit #camel_communities, I open the question box and ask about camels. If you ask a question from #company people, they will never answer the truth. They will answer if you ask questions from the nomadic people, pastoralists, small and medium farmers, and indigenous people. I asked questions about the production and usage of different products, i.e. wool, bones, skin, etc. Also, I searched the internet and compiled the answer into a fluent text so one could better understand. I at this moment share an important post about the usage and benefits of #camel_bones. Camel bones are used as #jewelry in some cultures like #India, #Africa, and #Arabia. Camel bones can be used to make good-quality broth and fertilizer (bone meal). Some people use it to make #biochar (as #fertilizer). Israeli Scientists Invent Uniquely Efficient System to Grow Fish and Vegetables Together Climate change is stressing our food sources. Ben-Gurion University of the Negev scientists develop advanced aquaponics system, where the vegetables we will eat grow in the waste of fish we will also eat - and it produces energy. Enter the scientists at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev with an advanced aquaponics system to grow fish and vegetables together more efficiently in a closed-loop system. The paper by Dr. Amit Gross with Dr. Ze Zhu and Dr. Uri Yogev from Ben-Gurion University and Prof. Karel Keesman from Wageningen University in the Netherlands was published last week in the journal Resources, Conservation and Recycling. The ultimate goal is to improve #foodsecurity. They are working with the #barramundi, a popular Australian fish that is also widely grown in fish farms. Their new system is unique in being almost completely closed and not only exploits fish feces and vegetable waste, extracting nutrients from them; crucially it also produces energy that can be harvested, the team explains. It is much more efficient than conventional aquaponics systems that can grow fish + veg but create more waste and don't harvest energy, they say. Yes, the vegetables are fertilized with fish feces but fussiness over that is inappropriate. Go ahead, analyze your coffee for mouse droppings, your tea bag for bleach, those industrial cookies for propylene glycol and tertiary butylhydroquinone or check out snail mucus skin cream. Don't even ask what's in sausages. Also note we don't fertilize farm fields with fairy dust. It's shake time in Israel. Grower's in Kibbutz Ein-Harod have started shaking the first plots in their almond orchard, as captured by our own Ynon Nevo.
