Over the past decade, I have reviewed over 1,000 cv's in search for the best team members to join our team. I see a lot of people in Israel in need of jobs these days so sharing some tips from my experience as a manager and Organizational Psychologist that I hope can be helpful. If you have any questions or additional insights, please feel free to comment below or pm me. I divided the job-seeking journey into 4 stages: 1. Self-reflection 2. CV building 3. Networking 4. “Dating” your future boss In this post I will cover some pointers for the first 3 stages. Next post will cover pointers for the last stage. *Self-reflection* 1. Self-reflection and understanding what you are good at and what you are passionate about. 2. Who are you - Need to be able to answer this in 2-3 lines at the top of the CV. Are you a manager and looking to be in a leadership role or more of a hands-on executive? Is your focus marketing/sales/coding/project management? Pro tip: Ask your friends to be honest with you and share the value they see you bring. It will crystalize your own view as well. *CV and LinkedIn profile* 1. CV building - how does your future boss know you are great at what you do? What success and impact did you have that you can articulate with numbers? 2. The design is great. But the most important is the content. Make sure clear description in the header what you do and keep it short, with bullet points and a 1-pager. Make sure no mistakes. If there is even 1 typo, it is a no-go. 3. Passion talks. Years ago I hired a young man with very little experience because he came with great passion and told me how he taught himself code at age 11. See how you can find that story that highlights your greatness. *Networking* 1. Networking and asking friends for an intro or to put in a good word. Identify 10 people you will have coffee with to brainstorm your career. Some will give you great advice. Others will give you a good lead. 2. Don't only think about networking with those who can give you the job today but rather with those who know people that can help you. 3. The best way to build trust is to show your work in action. I once hired someone because he reached out and explained to me in a loom video why one of my client websites stinked and how that can be fixed. He didn't tell me what he does but showed me. What tips have you found as a manager that you would give future employees?

Nir Tal is an example that not all successful entrepreneurs are tech founders    He is the CEO of Maskit, Israel's first fashion house, originally established in 1954 as a governmental company and led by Ruth Dayan. Over ten years ago, Nir and his wife, Sharon, revitalized the iconic brand, blending the country’s cultural heritage with contemporary fashion (Sharon, a globally experienced and super talented designer, serves as Maskit's Head Designer, while Nir oversees the company's business operations)   Before leading Maskit, Nir worked as the head of Innovation at Deloitte, led a few holding companies, and holds an MBA from the University of Chicago. Under their leadership, Maskit has reestablished itself as a prominent name in luxury fashion, both in Israel and internationally Oftentimes, especially in the Startup Nation, we tend to focus on tech, but innovation reaches far beyond that in the Israeli ecosystem There is something to be noted about facing and overcoming challenges in old school industries as Nir did when reviving Maskit, and reestablishing the brand’s identity in a competitive global market while seeking to merge tradition with modernity   At its core entrepreneurship is always about tapping a market need and building a strong narrative and brand around it. This is true for fashion and tech, Maskit had the added challenge of revitalizing a legacy brand   Nir believes that “with entrepreneurship it doesn't make a difference if it's urban agriculture, hotels, or a passion project. It's about creating value. It's about starting from zero, and going to one. Fast-Track Funding Program Israeli Tech Companies Program's Description As a quick response to the challenges tech companies are facing, as a result of the “Iron Swords” war, the Israel Innovation Authority is offering a “Fast Track” funding program to support technological companies and projects. Goal of the incentive program This funding program operates through the Innovation Authority’s R&D fund and is designed for innovative Israeli tech companies with a short runway (up to 6 months) that are in the process of raising capital. Those companies that experience challenges in raising capital due to the situation and in need of bridge funding, are the target of this program. Who is the incentive program for? The fast track is designed for Israeli companies who are in the midst of development/early sales with substantial assets (technologies, unique team, consumers etc). What do you get? I had the honor of being interviewed by Globes about the recent groundbreaking advancements from OpenAI and Google. It's fascinating to witness the rapid pace of innovation and how these giants are pushing the boundaries of what's possible with AI. Key takeaways from the interview: OpenAI's GPT 4o Launch: OpenAI introduced GPT 4o, a model that’s twice as fast and half the cost of its predecessor. With 100 million active weekly users, the goal is to make AI models even more accessible and integrated into daily life. Exciting features like video calls with ChatGPT are on the horizon! Google's Gemini Upgrade: At Google’s annual developer conference, they showcased enhancements to their AI model, Gemini, which can now handle more data and produce even more sophisticated outputs. Google also emphasized the integration of AI in their search engine and the development of advanced personal assistants. The Future of AI: Both companies are striving towards creating intelligent personal assistants that can handle a myriad of tasks seamlessly. This includes recognizing emotions in voice and eventually through video. In the interview, I mentioned: "Until now, integrating individual text segments into models was a manual process. The future model aims to provide continuous and comprehensive responses, seeing everything you see. However, it's unclear when this will become a reality." Challenging Business Models: It's intriguing to see how these companies might be disrupting their own business models. OpenAI’s move to offer GPT-4 for free aims to build a vast user base, which could convert to premium users in the future. For Google, integrating AI into search might reduce ad revenue but is essential for maintaining relevance. NVIDIA’s Crucial Role: Both OpenAI and Google acknowledge NVIDIA’s pivotal contribution with their advanced GPUs, which are essential for these AI advancements. This collaboration underscores NVIDIA's importance in the AI ecosystem. The AI landscape is incredibly dynamic, and it's a privilege to be part of this revolution. 10 Mistakes to avoid in Global Hiring: We recently acquired updated stats of Israeli startups (we won’t mention the companies here) that hired and fired CRO’s, VP Sales and Enterprise Account Exec’s in the U.S. after only 6-12 months on the job! The damage to these companies in revenue, customer satisfaction/retention, overall image (from both customers and potential hires) is dramatic, has a price tag, and in most cases could have been avoided.
