The massive statues on an empty island are all that’s left of a once-thriving civilization—an island that couldn’t support the population after all the trees were cut down. As the CEO of a fast-growing SaaS company, I understand the pressure of consistently hitting quarterly targets. This drives a push for every GTM initiative to deliver quick wins. 𝗭𝗼𝗼𝗺 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗮 Our opportunity-to-won conversion rate is 5% overall, but it’s 15% for our ICP accounts. By focusing on the short term, we lose control over opportunity quality. Shifting to a long-term focus, we can increase pipeline quality and boost conversion rates. 𝟰. 𝗥𝗼𝗼𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗻𝗮𝗿𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁 𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗰𝘀 With the current 5% conversion rate our Cost-Per-Opportunity is 5% and Customer Acquisition Cost (CAC) is $150K. By tripling the conversion rate, we can reduce both metrics by 66%. 𝟱. 𝗦𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘁’𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗯𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗸-𝗮𝗻𝗱-𝘄𝗵𝗶𝘁𝗲 We can optimize short-term demand capture by eliminating 40% of the poorest-performing investments and reallocating that spend to long-term initiatives. The CMO plays a crucial role in breaking this vicious cycle. While CROs focus on hitting the quotas, CMOs must establish strategic priorities by emphasizing key business metrics over marketing metrics. This approach arms the CEO with a compelling narrative for the board. Once the CEO is aligned, getting the CRO on board is easier, as they’ll see that marketing’s role isn’t just to fill the pipeline (quantity) but to enhance conversion rates and sales velocity (quality). McKinsey found that companies balancing short-term performance with long-term growth outperform peers by 47% in revenue and earnings. Those investing in brand building see a 3x ROI compared to those focused only on short-term sales. I’ve shared the research link in the comments.

Just had an experience with Wix that I'm not even sure how it's legal. As an agency, years ago now, I setup a client's website. That agency is now dissolved. Agency accounts on Wix pay on behalf of clients and Wix pays on behalf of the agency to Google Workspace (as a reseller). Finally, our business account was closed up and annual subs started cancelling. To transfer off a reseller you just ask them for a 9 digit code you put into your Google Workspace (think like a 2fa code). They straight up said "no" and "who told you that" (and "who" is just Google directly, their docs, and Workspace dashboard, and personal experience). I thought..."no?" maybe they don't understand and I explain I don't own the rights to this and need this account transferred away on behalf of the IP owner. Nope, they insisted, my options were: pay on behalf of this (now) unaffiliated company to renew ($144) or cancel my subscription. However, if I cancel, the client will lose access to their Google Workspace *and all their emails forever*. I pointed out I do not have authority to do that as the agency is dissolved as well as my contract with the client is long since cancelled. In fact, to renew, there's specifically a checkbox saying I'm "legally authorized" to make the payment which I am not. I pointed this out to the rep repeatedly and they insisted that because I made the website I own all company IP (what?!). Literally, they said I own their emails and IP because I made their website. Ultimately, I renewed so the client could have access again but I cannot stress enough how badly you should NOT use Wix for Google Workspace at this point if you are managing websites for a client as they won't give you a transfer out code. I've been building sites for decades now and I've been running Google Apps/Workspace/Suite accounts since it launched through countless platforms and not once has a platform held it hostage and threatened to delete a Workspace unless I renew with them directly and not Google.

Excited to launch our case study with Alexander Benz - who runs growth agency Blikket. He’s driven over $120 million in additional revenue for brands he’s worked with, and drove a 2% absolute lift in conversion rates for one of his clients with Zigpoll. Two things that I found super interesting about how Alex was using Zigpoll 1) He used Zigpoll’s onsite surveys to create educational quizzes. For an eco-friendly detergent brand, the quizzes posed questions like “How much plastic waste do you think a standard detergent creates per family per year?” “How much detergent do you think people waste by not dosing correctly?” He was already doing a lot of educational nurture flows via SMS and Klaviyo campaigns, but this survey allows that education to happen upfront! 2) To ensure high completion rates of longer surveys, he would only send the discount code once respondents to the survey reached the end. For a 5-6 question quiz, he was seeing similar completion rates to simple email popups, while driving increased conversion rates as a result of this educational component: “Typically we saw like a 10-14% conversion rate, for the email pop up that we used before - that was just getting the person's email and name. So getting the quiz going, I think we saw around 10% engagement rate to get them through the entire quiz. “ He’s now rolling out more of these quizzes to his other clients! I’ve worked with over 80 companies at BizDev Labs purely for outbound lead generation. Here’s what I learned: 1. Pick the Highest Converting Channel Now You’ve got options: cold calling, email, LinkedIn, organic posts, etc. But trying to do everything is a mistake. Test early, find the channel that generates meetings with the least effort, and double down. Focused effort brings the best results. 2. Outbound Isn’t Just Cold Calling Outbound is more than a single activity. You can mix and match channels, strategies, and targeting. The key is to test various approaches to see what clicks for your business. Outbound is a toolkit—use it wisely. 3. Leads Are Not the Only Metric That Matters Don’t get fixated on the number of leads. It’s a misleading metric. We had a client who got 40% more leads with another agency, but we still delivered 20% more revenue. Why? Our win rate and average contract value were higher. Quality and efficiency win out. 4. Targeting is 60% of the Game Good targeting solves most outbound problems. We doubled down on identifying buying intent, spotting signals, and talking about relevant topics. This made outreach much easier and more effective. When your targeting is sharp, your conversations are more meaningful. 5. Outbound Isn’t a Standalone Funnel Anymore We stopped treating cold outbound as a siloed channel. Many leads ended up searching on their own and requesting a demo after our outreach. 🚦 How to Prevent a (not set) Backlog in Your #GA4 Reports to Minimize "(not set)" Issues. If you want to minimize (not set) values in your GA4 reports, make sure that the values of your custom dimensions are supplied by "logged" event parameters. Otherwise, you will create the (not set) backlog in your reports. . . A logged event parameter is one that is already being tracked and reported by your GA4 property. For example, the 'page_title' parameter is a logged parameter (check the screenshot below). . . You can also create a custom dimension without a logged event parameter, but this is not considered good practice. When you create a custom dimension without an existing logged event parameter, it will not have anything to populate it with. This could lead to a high number of (not set) values in your reports, making it difficult to understand user behaviour or trends. . . Depending on your website traffic volume, by the time the event parameter is logged, you may already have a significant number of (not set) values in your reports. When you create a custom dimension without a corresponding event parameter, any data collected before adding the parameter will appear (not set) in your reports. This is called (not set) backlog, which can be substantial for websites with high traffic volume. To minimize the impact of the (not set) backlog, make sure that the values of your custom dimensions are supplied by "logged" event parameters.
