I had the incredible opportunity to give a lecture to the IEC - Israel Electric Corporation חברת החשמל לישראל בע"מ. (In the presence of the CEO, chairman of the board, and other senior officials from all divisions). This was part of an annual event hosted by the company's innovation unit, held in an auditorium at the company's headquarters, and broadcast live to thousands of employees. We discussed: - The impact of artificial intelligence on various sectors worldwide. - The latest innovations emerging globally. - Practical Ai tools to enhance daily operations. To make things even more exciting, we created a song live on stage, using AI for both the lyrics and melody! It was a fantastic ice-breaker and a fun demonstration of AI's creative potential. In the past year, DDR&D has significantly increased the scope of its collaboration with the high-tech industry. Until October 7, 2023, DDR&D worked with around 206 Israeli startup companies, and today, following the war, the number has risen to 272 companies. Tech Transfer – Have You Tried It? Bridging the gap between research and commercial application is never simple, but it’s an essential leap for innovation, especially in the #foodtech sector that relies on deeptech and biology that takes time to develop. The journey often starts with tough negotiations over licensing agreements. Universities do an excellent job protecting their IP and ensuring their future incomes, and continues with the clash of cultures - academia thrives on exploration and discovery, while the industry needs fast, market-ready solutions. The timelines and priorities don’t always align. Medium Well Technological Solutions began as a spin-off from a concept that emerged at the The Hebrew University of Jerusalem . Like many ventures starting from academia, our path has been complex. But despite the challenges and the physical distance between our labs (initially 200 km apart and then down to 100 km…), we’ve managed to operate as a cohesive team, supporting each other every step of the way. The most important lessons we learned for positive collaboration: 📢 Effective Communication: we kept regular and transparent communication to bridge the gaps and align goals. 🔬 Leverage University Resources: we enjoyed access to advanced analytics, state-of-the-art labs, and experience across various fields. These resources can significantly boost a lean startup, especially in a sector as technically demanding as foodtech. 📈 Plan for Scale Early: We considered scalability and commercialization from the very beginning, and always focused on finding the right moment to transition from research to product development.

I had the pleasure of attending the Apex Group Ltd Israel Summit, Co-hosted with Brooks-Keret Financial Management, which focused on Israel's Diverse Capital Raising & Private Equity Landscape. The event provided valuable insights into the latest trends and developments in fundraising, including alternative financing methods. TL; DR: We’ve closed our first investment! About a year ago, Daniel Algor and I founded MYC, a private investment firm dedicated to driving value creation for imperfect industrial businesses—hidden gems—within the Israeli middle market, recognizing the immense untapped potential within this sector. I’m excited to announce that we have finalized our first investment in Messilot, a leading manufacturer of steel components and wires designed for high-reliability applications that require long service life, all while meeting the highest international standards. We thank our investors and the stellar management team at Messilot for helping us achieve this milestone. The past year has been challenging on many fronts, but we remained committed to advancing our venture and completing this first investment round. Corporate innovation explorers, check this podcast out - Always great doing things with Jeff Amerine, PMP, thanks for hositng me on the Innovation Junkie podcast, some key takeaways from our discussion that I thought would be interesting to share here: 1 - "The innovation curve" - know where you and your organization are on the innvoation curve and learn what's needed for that stage, some organizations are very early in the process and need to work on culture and basic infrasturcure and some are more advanced and need to focus on scale. 2 - "Startup Ready Enterprise" - You don't only need an "enterprise ready startup", you also need a "startup ready enterprise", find out what does your internal process look like and what will be required for people in your org. to be able to take in working with startups. (some of the things will be discovered only once you run a few startups through the process) 3 - "Don't wing it" Establish a structured process and methodology for evaluating, piloting, and implementing startup solutions. This ensures focus, speed, and alignment between the startup and corporate stakeholders. The friction and effort from misalignment and lack of transparency are too expensive for you and your organization, you don't have a lot of time. 4 - "Communicate and then over communicate" Bridge the cultural gap between startups and large enterprises by providing clear guidance and setting expectations early in the engagement process. This helps startups understand the corporate environment, terminology, and decision-making processes and also people on your team to be able to know what's coming up next. 5 - "Less surprises for everyone, more resutls" - Involve key stakeholders like procurement, legal, and security teams from the start to identify and adapt internal processes that may hinder innovation.Their buy-in and flexibility are crucial for successful implementation. 6. "You can do it!, they did it" Instill a belief in the "art of possible" by learning from peers who have successfully implemented corporate innovation programs. This can help overcome internal resistance and skepticism.
