Great accomplishment to our cyber ecosystem, Eleven Israeli startups are featured in the Rising in Cyber list, which highlights the most promising cyber companies in the U.S. https://risingincyber.com/ The project was organized by the global venture capital fund Notable Capital, in cooperation with the NewYork Stock Exchange, Fenwick, and HSBC Innovation Banking. The list includes: Gomboc.ai , Oligo Security , and Wing Security among the 10 early-stage companies; Astrix Security, Descope , and Grip Security at the mid-stage; and Cyera , Drata , Island , Orca Security , and Wiz at the growth stage. The Rising in Cyber survey of more than 100 security leaders revealed three innovation drivers needed by security teams to adapt to a growing footprint of technologies, the rise of AI, and the evolving sophistication of cyber criminals. These themes provide a glimpse into the future buying patterns of CISOs. 1. Identity and Access Management The rise of non-human actors and identity-centric, malware-free attacks, which accounted for 75% of incidents in 2023, highlights the urgent need for robust identity and access management (IAM) solutions. Startups are stepping up with next-generation Identity Governance and Administration (IGA), new authentication platforms, and privileged access management tools. 2. Cloud Security With the transition to multi-cloud architectures, traditional security tools remain inadequate for cloud environments. Innovations in cloud detection and response, data security, automation, risk management, and AI threat detection are becoming essential. 3. Application and Code Security The widespread use of open-source code introduces new vulnerabilities, while AI supercharges product security teams. Startups enabling collaboration between developers and security teams are leading the way, with AI improving code remediation and testing.

moments before long weeks As the CEO of Code Blue, I've had the privilege of leading our team through some of the known high-profile cyber crises in the past two months. Each situation presented its unique challenges, from a worldwide cybersecurity company facing a major breach, to an Israeli startup announcing its Unicorn Exit just as it was hit by a cyber attack. We also assisted a London Stock Exchange Energy Company, whose investors were concerned about liabilities during a critical loan process, and cargo aviation companies seeking cyber solutions. this is just the tip of the iceberg. What these diverse incidents taught us is a universal truth: reputation is everything. In each case, while our deep Incident Response (IR) investigation was essential, it was our global PR and Business Continuity Planning (BCP) teams that made the difference. Israeli Solution That Ensures Security of AI Copilot Raises $38 Million ZENITY, an Israeli startup which specializes in AI-based cybersecurity, raised $38 million in a Series B funding round led by Daniel Loeb's Third Point Ventures and DTCP. In total, Zenity raised $55 million. The new funding will accelerate development of the Zenity' product, and support Zenity’s expansion in North America. Zenity’s product protects AI copilots from cyber threats, as with the increased use of AI copilot by business users, attackers can exploit these applications by injecting malicious commands, poisoning data, and embedding hidden instructions into AI systems. The product is potentially interesting for financial organizations, pharmaceutical companies, and healthcare systems. Ben Kliger, CEO, and Michael Bargury, CTO, founded Zenity in 2021. I was recently interviewed about the dangers of Chinese smart cars. This topic reminds me of a talk I gave in 2014 at RSA San Francisco, alongside the superstar Hila Meller, and at TEDx in Greece (thanks to the amazing Keren Elazari). Both talks were titled "State-Sponsored Spies Inside Facebook." In these talks, I discussed the growing cooperation between commercial entities and their governments. I concluded with this question: Will we teach our children not to download certain apps just because they were developed in an enemy country? Just a few years later, this scenario has become a reality. For example, the U.S. government prohibits its personnel from installing the Chinese TikTok app, citing concerns that it is used by the Chinese government to track people globally. It's easy to vilify China as the "evil giant," but let's not forget that the U.S. has engaged in similar activities. Edward Snowden revealed that the NSA used data from companies like Google, Facebook, Microsoft, and Apple to promote American security and economic interests. And the U.S. is just one example in a long list of countries engaging in such practices. To summarize my RSA and TEDx lectures in one sentence: Nations have both homeland and financial incentives to embed spies in commercial companies like Facebook, Google, and Apple. Years after my lecture, it was discovered that Saudi Arabia had hired three spies inside Twitter to gather information on regime opponents. The Saudi authorities boasted of a new secret weapon against dissenters, claiming that the anonymity of the internet no longer protected them. Surprisingly enough, Saudi Arabia has started building their relationship with the Twitter spies, just 5 months after my talk. I hope my lecture wasn't the inspiration for their actions, though the RSA conference is attended by 30,000 people, and my talk had only about 30 attendees (0.1%). So, the chances are slim. Now, this scenario is repeating itself with smart cars. These vehicles are equipped with countless sensors, including microphones and GPS, transforming what was once a private space into an advanced surveillance system. This poses significant security risks, especially for military and security personnel who might have confidential conversations in their cars. And this is before we even consider the cyber threats, such as car hacking and kidnappings. However, it's essential to remember that the smart car war is primarily an economic one. The American automobile industry accounts for over 3% of the U.S. GDP. The Chinese see the smart electric vehicle revolution as a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to reshape the industry and aim to be the leading player. They have numerous advantages, such as natural resources, mass production experience, and cheap labor. Moreover, the Chinese government is making it a national goal to dominate this sector, even subsidizing car production to artificially lower prices. The car war is on.

While I'm glad to see the The Wall Street Journal publish this, is it really new news? Israeli entrepreneurs have been leading the cybersecurity market for years. 8200 is a big reason for that, but it is also the broader ecosystem that has been built up around it. Experienced entrepreneurs, VCs that understand the market (like Merlin Ventures!) and buyers that have come to expect world-class capabilities from Israeli startups. It's a big part of why we built the Israeli Startup Advisory Network (ISAN) with our partner Josh Cohen - to help further foster connectivity between US security executives and the innovation coming from the Israeli startup community. Israel has delivered so many amazing companies already, and yet we continue to see new innovations coming out every day. The cyber expertise from 8200 is only the beginning. Israeli Cyber Startup Raised $70 Million Torq, an Israeli Cyber company, raised $70 million in a Series C round led by Evolution Equity Partners, with participation from Bessemer Venture Partners, Notable Capital, Greenfield Partners, and Strait Capital. In 2024, Torq has raised $112 million, following a $42 million expansion of its Series B in January. To date, the company has raised $192 million. Torq's AI-based cybersecurity platform connects an organization's security infrastructure to streamline the detection and response to cyber incidents. It automates complex processes on a large scale, reducing the workload on human analysts. Torq was founded in 2020 by Ofer Smadari (CEO), Leonid Belkind (CTO), and Eldad Livni (CINO). The recent #CyberWeek was an excellent opportunity to reconnect with colleagues while making new and exciting connections. Despite ongoing concerns, the steady recovery and increased investments in Israel are very encouraging. In H1 2024, Israeli #Cyber startups raised an impressive $2.9B, marking a 53% increase from the same period in 2023. This surge, coupled with the highest number of #exits since 2021, underscores a positive trend in the #Cybersecurity industry. Adding to this is Gartner's Attack Surface Management (ASM) report: "By 2028, investments in proactive technologies that improve visibility and reduce exposure will grow twice as fast as investments in reactive technologies that detect and respond to incidents". According to the latest Morgan Stanley CIO survey, cloud computing remains a top priority, while #Gartner predicts a significant increase in spending on data privacy and vulnerability assessment in 2024. At KTrust, an Israeli cybersecurity company, we focus on #proactive technology, integrated security solutions, and ongoing threat exposure for the #Kubernetes ecosystem. These developments inspire me to move forward with even greater enthusiasm and dedication.

Our local cybersecurity ecosystem holds a considerable share of the worldwide cybersecurity market and is often ranked high on global innovation indices for its cybersecurity capabilities. Startup Nation Central recently published a report highlighting the impact the Israeli cybersecurity market has on the global stage. As of the publishing of the report, there were over 450 cybersecurity startups in Israel, with Israeli cyber exits accounting for 51% of the industry’s total transaction value of $7.5 billion. CISOs, I want to bring your attention to a recent Google Cloud blog by Phil Venables, VP, TI Security & CISO, Google Cloud, where he shares 3 promising AI use cases for cybersecurity. He explains that AI has the potential to dramatically change cybersecurity and benefit defenders in the long run. At Google Cloud, we believe that AI can help defenders move faster by automating tasks that, until now, have required laborious toil from security experts.
