Google is reportedly in advanced talks to acquire Israeli cloud security startup Wiz for approximately $23 billion. If finalized, this acquisition would be Google's largest to date, significantly boosting its cloud security capabilities. Wiz, known for its robust cloud-native application protection, has rapidly grown since its inception, securing substantial funding and high valuations. Google has a notable history of acquisitions, including the $12.5 billion purchase of Motorola Mobility in 2011 to enhance its hardware capabilities and the $5.4 billion acquisition of cybersecurity firm Mandiant in 2022 to strengthen its security portfolio. Cloud security has become especially important in recent years as companies have spent heavily to move data to cloud platforms. Where does AI meet the banking industry? How do we accelerate digital transformation and how can financial organizations implement innovation? These questions and more were discussed this week as we hosted the Governor of the Bank of Israel, Prof. Amir Yaron, and the bank's senior management at IBM Israel. We presented Prof. Yaron and his team with global technological trends in the banking world from the IBM Research Institute. We demonstrated business scenarios that leverage new technologies and discussed governance, quality, accuracy, economic implications—and the immense potential—of the generative AI revolution. The generative AI revolution is going to create huge business impact, accelerating innovative financial solutions and client experience while increasing productivity and efficiency. We also talked about quantum computing, which can solve complex human problems but also presents challenges in the realms of information and cybersecurity. This revolution is closer than many think and is already useful, accessible, and usable today. Knowledge sharing and open discussions about opportunities and challenges are the foundation upon which innovation is built. I was pleased that the bank's management and we at IBM share a common vision of accelerating innovation in the Israeli economy in general—and the financial sector in particular. From our perspective at Joule Ventures, it is never a bad time to be investing in #Israel, so long as one remains highly disciplined from a valuation, sector, and stage standpoint. That being said, the current geopolitical volatility combined with an ongoing venture market reset are creating some of the best deployment conditions in Israel we've seen in the past 15 years. 🚨 Israeli cybersecurity decacorn Wiz is exploring a potential sale of existing shares at a valuation between $15 billion and $20 billion. Take a look at this picture. It was taken today at our Salesforce offices in Tel-Aviv. It shows a few dozens of Salesforce Israel employees in one of our regular all-hands meetings. What's so special about that? Well, that picture was taken exactly 36 hours after Iran launched a massive aerial strike against Israel with 100s of UCAVs, ballistic and cruise missiles carrying about 60 tons(!) of explosives. Thanks to the Israeli Air force, the air forces of the US, UK, France, Jordan and others *and* Israeli innovation and engineering talent who developed the most advanced multi-layered air defense systems in the world - luckily that attack ended up with relatively low impact. It was a sleepless night for all us in Israel who got an advanced notice of the attack and basically spent that night bracing for impact. Now take another look at this picture. 36 hours later - People showing up at the office, talking to each other, having a few laughs, having meetings, discussing deadlines, solving business problems, discussing engineering problems, doing demos, having coffee and lunch together, having an all-hands meeting together. 36 hours ago we were bracing for impact of 60 tons of explosives that were about to fall out of the sky. In Hebrew we say "gam zu l'tov," this too is for blessing. We try to find some good or a lesson in anything we face. I'm not sharing the following for sympathy or concern, but instead as a lesson. Some time ago I began to experience a set of symptoms in my right arm:  Weakness, fatigue, pain, a loss of strength, and my hand began to atrophy. The symptoms slowly worsened. Occasionally, picking up my cuppa tea felt like an intense workout, and a handshake could be excruciatingly painful. I then began to experience mild symptoms in my left arm, and thus knew it was time - past time - to consult my doctor. My doctor found that the spaces between my neck vertebrae have compressed, and there is constant pressure on the nerve fibers exiting between those spaces. Fortunately there exists a range of treatment options. I will now work with my medical team to determine the next steps towards restoring full function. Where I want to focus your attention is on the root cause. I've had a 40+ year career in tech. I frequently spend well over 10 hours per day, six days per week, hunched over a computer. There is always another task, another incoming ping, another person or project in need, and during all of that: My posture is terrible. We spend more time with tech than in ages past. We hunch over our desktops, laptops, and other devices. There are several studies on the negative impact poor posture has on us over time. Perhaps your community is less walking-friendly, but please do find a way to get up and move about. Exercise; even a walk is a great workout. Stand up, stretch, and move regularly - I use it as an excuse to find my wife and tell her dad-jokes. :) Join a club and attend meetings, so that you're up and moving and socializing in-person. Ensure that your workstation is ergonomically squared away. You'll thank yourself 25+ years later. As for me, please don't worry, I'll be fine. Assess, adapt, and overcome! I have the world's best teammate (my wife) and we will power through. Shavua Tov (have a great week)!
