4% of the Israeli #companies generate a quarter of the state's #income from #taxes - this amazing figure is the strength of the Israeli #hightechsector. But the more interesting figure concerns what is the contribution of the corporate tax and who generates most of it: only 15% of the hi-tech contribution to the country's treasury comes from #Corporatetax and the rest from #taxation on #employees' #salaries. As a result of the war, the Israeli defense industry and defense-tech companies have been at the forefront. In a recent article he wrote for @Calcalist, @Ofir Gomeh @Capital Nature CEO explains how we can leverage significant investments made in defense industries to achieve environmental sustainability and overcome climate change. Dual-use technology refers to technologies that can be used for both military and civilian purposes, thereby maximizing the advantages of advanced technologies. A drone is a great example of dual-use technology – on one hand, it can be used for military surveillance, and on the other hand, it can also be used to monitor climate-related changes such as methane and other GHG emissions monitoring, weather patterns, etc. In the article, Ofir provided more examples of dual-use technologies, including satellite technologies and green transportation. Defense industries and Israeli defense-tech companies can play a central role in dual-use technology. Investing in dedicated bodies like Capital Nature can provide the necessary network and market access for these technologies. Israel is a giant playground if you can perceive it as such. One of my adventures in the corridors of Israeli academia (it’s a comedy. They all are) involved an esoteric investigation into a new class of numbers. There was a notion that there is a negative zero and a positive zero, and that it is somehow useful. I came in to the lab, understood what is required, and wrote the code that produces negative and positive zeros, and queries that perform statistical analysis on the outputs, etc, etc, etc. Negative zeros, positive zeros, perhaps useless in any case aside from slippage calculation in zero-ish trade thresholds.
