** RC Initiation Systems Linked to the Syrian Regime ** On November 18, 2024, Internal Security Forces affiliated with the Kurdish Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria neutralized an IED in Deir al-Zour Governorate, in eastern Syria. The IED was cased in a transparent square box, covered in transparent tape spray-painted brown, and black insulating tape, connected to an RC initiation system cased in a black box, with a foldable rubber antenna. A different IED – a linear shaped charge – with an identical initiation system, was neutralized in the same area not long before. ** Microwave Doppler Motion Sensor Initiator, Ukraine ** In September and November 2024, Russian military-oriented Telegram channels uploaded documentation showing two separate incidents of modified mines, reportedly released from rotary-wing weaponized UAVs by Ukrainian forces. The mines were equipped with an initiator resembling the Djonik magnetic field sensor booby trap mechanism, designated “Kraplya-2.” The Kraplya-2 has a short arming delay and is a microwave Doppler motion sensor. Though the external configuration resembles previous configurations of Djonik magnetic sensor initiators, this new initiator has no self-destruct mechanism and the electronic boards are different. ** 3D-Printed Fuses for Improvised Bomblets, Ukraine ** On May 24, 2024, a Russian Telegram channel called “Craftsmen for the [Military] Front” shared a leaked Ukrainian archive containing instructions and programmed files for 3D-printing improvised ammunition and a variety of parts for modifying standard ammunition. The catalog was stolen by a Russian group called “Russian Hackers.” Among the items shown in the catalog were fuses with a distinctive plunger design dubbed “Edelweiss” that were recently evidenced in use by military forces in the field with different types of ammunition for armed UAVs. ** FPV Drone-Based Improvised Loitering Munitions Increasingly Targeting ECM-Protected Targets ** In recent weeks, the number of published FPV racing drone-based improvised loitering munition attacks against enemy personnel and vehicles equipped with ECM systems has risen significantly. This may be explained by the use of new FPV drone technology, such as wire-guided drones and semi-autonomous drones. Another explanation might be that the Ukrainians have gained a temporary advantage by switching to drones that operate on different frequencies than before, enabling them to temporarily strike Russian positions with increased efficiency. Yet another hypothesis suggests the proliferation of more ECM systems on the frontlines of the Russo-Ukrainian war will statistically lead to a rise in ECM system hits being recorded. ** UGVs Equipped with Anti-Drone Systems Used by Russian Forces ** In April 2024, a Telegram channel affiliated with a Russian company specializing in information protection published a video showcasing an unmanned ground vehicle equipped with an anti-drone system. Additionally, the post included an image showing the UGV placed in the field, allegedly near Ukrainian positions. Reportedly, the system was designed to help Russian forces safely down weaponized UAVs. Get the full report: https://lnkd.in/e8fVzNZ5

** Russian Tactical Unattended Ground Sensor Applications with Explosives, Ukraine ** In recent months, Ukrainian forces have discovered previously unseen Russian Tactical Unattended Ground Sensor systems in Sumy and Kharkiv oblasts, in northeastern Ukraine. Reports and visual documentation suggest these types of systems were found in locations where Ukrainian forces were targeted with explosive devices. The new Russian T-UGS found by the Ukrainian forces are modular systems that include different sensors and early warning attachments, commonly deployed by special reconnaissance units. T-UGS systems enable these units to process near real-time information from a chosen location according to the mission’s objectives, whether intelligence gathering, defending sensitive sites or eliminating enemy targets. ** Small Russian Improvised Blast Mines Dispersed Using Drones, Ukraine ** During September 2024, small improvised anti-personnel mines used by Russian forces began to appear in the Ukrainian arena. The improvised AP blast mines, measuring just several centimeters, usually contain only a few grams of explosives and no fragmentation, and are laid in different areas using drones. The majority of the casings of these improvised mines are 3D-printed and they are initiated by applying light pressure to close an electric circuit. The initiation system includes an electric detonator, a button battery, and a safety pin. Get the full report: https://lnkd.in/eKjZP5Pn
