Dan Grotsky, Chief Growth Officer, was honored to share insights from Groundwork BioAg's journey at the 3rd Annual Carbon Removal Conference at Microsoft's Herzilya offices, where the panel discussion about carbon dioxide removal (CDR) was so compelling that even a ballistic missile alert couldn’t replace carbon sequestration as the center of attention. The panel of #climatech colleagues, including Yehuda Borenstein of RepAir Carbon Capture and Carbonade, Hagit Horowitz from CarbonBlue, Yuval Lavi from TERRRA, Avi Luvchik, PhD from Oporto Carbon, and moderated by Maya Jacobs, explored where to draw the line between nature-based and tech-based CDR. The key takeaway: all CDR solutions combine elements of both technology and nature to varying degrees. We’re excited to share that Andrew Duff, our North American General Manager, has been invited to participate in “Cultivating Tomorrow,” CropLife Magazine’s C-suite executive thought leadership series. In his debut editorial, Andrew draws on his experience as both a lifelong farmer and an agricultural leader to provide unique insights into farmer needs and the evolving carbon markets. His perspective emphasizes the importance of value and trust in facilitating farmer participation as full partners in the carbon credit space. The science is clear and convincing: vast networks of mycorrhizal fungi sequester significant amounts of carbon - 13.1 GtCO2e yearly - into the soil where it belongs. But industrial agricultural practices have destroyed mycorrhizal networks over the past decades. Restoring mycorrhizal fungi in cropland also revives their ability to sequester and retain carbon - just like mycorrhizae do in undisturbed non-agricultural soil. Thank you, SPUN | Society for the Protection of Underground Networks, for speaking for the soil and mycorrhizae so powerfully and passionately. As #COP29 winds down at the close of the hottest year on record, the call to save mycorrhizal fungi is existentially urgent. Learn more about the power of mycorrhizal carbon to sequester carbon in soil and mitigate climate change here > https://lnkd.in/dvZ-Pv3M Yossi Kofman Dan Grotsky Danny Levy Hanan Dor Bari Ruimy Andrew Duff #letyourgroundwork #climatechange #carbon #sequestration #mycorrhiza #mycorrhizalfungi #mycorrhizalcarbon #soil
World leaders gather at COP29 this week to tackle runaway climate change. We think the climate conversation needs to dive underground and recognize the critical role mycorrhizal fungi play in controlling CO2. 🍄🟫🌡️ Mycorrhizal fungi draw down roughly 13 billion tons of CO2 into the soil. But threats from agriculture and urbanization to the climate crisis threaten fungi’s survival and ability to regulate global carbon levels. 🥵 With 2024 on track to be the hottest year on record, we urgently need to protect fungi so they can help us preserve a liveable planet! It's no secret that water stress - whether from floods or drought - is taking a severe toll on crops worldwide. Recent data from the World Resources Institute shows that one quarter of the world’s crops are now impacted by water stress. Crops are most vulnerable when grown in soils that lack the ability to properly absorb and retain water, often due to insufficient underground microbial life. Mycorrhizal fungi can help. Their network of mycelial hyphae enhances soils’ sponge-like qualities, improving its ability to effectively distribute and store water. Stay tuned for more information on how mycorrhizae support plant resilience in the face of water stress, and learn more about mycorrhizal impact here: https://lnkd.in/dUBMjjJ9 Yossi Kofman Dan Grotsky Danny Levy Hanan Dor Bari Ruimy Andrew Duff #letyourgroundwork #rootella #mycorrhiza #mycorrhizalfungi #nbs #cdr #waterstress #drought #flood https://lnkd.in/gzVYBQ7T

Agricultural soils are indisputably one of the most powerful climate change mitigation solutions. But what is the fastest, most effective and low-emissions way to sequester carbon permanently? Since mycorrhizal fungi serve as carbon’s main pathway into the soil, the most effective way to rapidly increase sequestered soil carbon is to boost mycorrhizal populations. Rootella Carbon is doing just that - making permanent carbon sequestration easy and accessible for every member of the value chain, from growers to buyers. By scaling net-negative agriculture with mycorrhiza - nature's most potent carbon sequestration microbe - Rootella Carbon is accelerating our collective efforts to heal our planet.
