We sat down with ERP Practice lead for Codec, David Wyke recently to learn a little more about his role for the UK and Irish markets and to ask him for some insights into the latest ERP trends. Can you describe your role in 3 sentences or less? My role as Enterprise Resource Planner (ERP) Practice Lead is to help organisations realise the benefit of migrating to a solution that connects the various aspects of their business such as Finance, Sales, Procurement etc. by harnessing Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central. From your perspective, what’s the most exciting trend in the industry right now? There are two things that stand out: 1) Migration from on-premise to cloud solutions – Organisations are moving away from legacy on-premise solutions to Software as a Service cloud solutions, harnessing the work from anywhere and any device ethos which cloud computing is enabling. 2) Adoption of AI – we’re seeing increased take up of Microsoft’s Co-Pilot technology to drive efficiencies such as Co-Pilot assistance with bank reconciliations and late payment predictions. Can you share a fun or surprising fact about yourself? I once appeared on a football quiz show on Sky Sports, answering all questions correctly taking home the top cash prize! EU DORA and SAP ECC ERP end of life This is a timely article from The Register especially if you’re in scope for the EU Digital Operational Resilience Act and using SAP ECC ERP. If you are still using SAP ECC ERP it goes end of life in 2027 with extended support until 2030. This means you need to schedule, plan and test your migration. You should be recording this third-party risk in your ICT risk register to ensure it’s highlighted to formally report to senior management and enable tracking. Next, it’s good to have a plan, so you need to have a transformation project to migrate from ECC ERP to a fully supported system like SAP S/4HANA. A major transformation like this will incur a significant amount of change and with change comes risk. Again, this 'change risk' should be recorded in your ICT risk register. It’s important that all major releases are correctly tested with contingency plans in place including pre-prepared crisis communications. If the worst happens and you suffer a major ICT disruption that needs to be formally reported to the European Supervisory Authorities. If you are unable to migrate by the 2030 deadline you will need to consider the risks and put in place suitable mitigating controls before this date.
