In one of our guest blog, Hakan Sezikli Co-Founder, BEVM FOUNDATION shares his thoughts and discusses the role of Layer2 solutions in boosting Bitcoin yields, improving scalability, and ensuring they work well with the existing Bitcoin system in the Web3 space. Layer 2 solutions for Bitcoin play a significant role in enhancing revenue opportunities, which is precisely what our BEVM project is working on. We believe there are two main growth points for revenue: - Firstly, it provides more DeFi opportunities for long-term BTC holders. Bitcoin holders have been seeking ways to increase their capital efficiency beyond simply following BTC price movements. Layer 2 can introduce BTC into the DeFi ecosystem, allowing investors to participate. For instance, through the BIDO liquid staking project in the BEVM ecosystem, fees are calculated in BTC, and 50% of these fees are distributed to Bitcoin stakers in BIDO, generating additional yield. - Secondly, hashrate RWA (Real World Assets) offers more revenue combinations for miners and investors. We know that traditional miners’ revenues are affected by market fluctuations and mining difficulty adjustments, with relatively high entry barriers. BEVM tokenizes hashrate, allowing users to flexibly configure hashrate tokens on the Layer 2 platform. For example, users can use hashrate tokens as collateral for hedging, futures and spot trading, or collateralized lending to increase returns or reduce risks. Additionally, we’re in talks with some new public chains and Layer 2 projects to provide BTC TVL (Total Value Locked) to them, thereby generating returns. These returns are actually provided by the chains themselves, potentially creating a virtuous cycle that promotes the development of the entire ecosystem. Issuers and offerors of asset-referenced or e-money tokens, commonly known as stablecoins, will also be required to provide DTIs and FFG DTIs, where available, within crypto-asset white papers. 💡 DTIs and FFG DTIs are made available as part of the Digital Asset data offering from SIX. The DeFi protocol Aave has revealed plans to launch the “Aave Network” after completing the V4 upgrade, which will become the main hub for Aave and GHO. The V4 upgrade focuses on increasing incentives for lenders and borrowers, restructuring the GHO operating mechanism, improving user experience (UX) through Smart Account, and creating a unified liquidity layer in preparation for expansion to other chains. Breaking News: Crypto.com Secures Approval from Ireland's Central Bank! Exciting times in the crypto world as Crypto.com, one of the leading global crypto trading platforms, has just received approval from the Central Bank of Ireland as a virtual asset service provider (VASP). Now, users can perform Base Chain deposits and withdrawals directly on Korbit. According to a Business Korea report published on Nov. 8, Korbit has signed a business agreement with U.S major crypto exchange Coinbase to host the Base Chain Network on their platform. Through Korbit’s collaboration with Coinbase, its users can now perform multi-chain deposits and withdrawals directly on the Korbit platform. For instance, users can deposit Ether(ETH) on the Ethereum Chain and withdraw it on the Base Chain(BASE) and vice versa. In return, Coinbase will support Korbit through promotional efforts, community events, and introduction into the Base Chain ecosystem. Not only that, the partnership between the two companies will also result in collaborative efforts to develop on-chain technology in South Korea and expanding support for Base Chain functions across the country. CEO of Korbit, Oh Se-jin, expressed optimism in Korbit’s partnership with Coinbase. He hopes the collaboration will serve to further expand South Korea’s growing virtual asset industry. “This is an opportunity to develop business models aligned with rapidly changing global trends and secure market competitiveness. We will provide differentiated benefits to users through various new services in the future,” said Oh. Vice president of business development at Coinbase, Dan Kim, said that Base Chain is excited to welcome more Korean traders into its on-chain ecosystem. He described Base Chain as a platform that aims to be accessible to anyone anywhere. “We look forward to continuously working with Korbit, including hosting buildathons and hackathons and educational community events in Korea,” said Kim. Base Chain is Coinbase’s Ethereum Layer 2 blockchain designed to enable an on-chain application ecosystem. The UK's Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has outlined a comprehensive roadmap to regulate the cryptocurrency sector, aiming to align it with traditional financial systems. Key components of this initiative include: Capital Requirements: Establishing financial standards for crypto firms to ensure stability and resilience. Insider Trading Rules: Implementing measures to prevent market abuse and promote fair trading practices. Execution Standards: Setting guidelines for transaction processing to enhance efficiency and transparency. The FCA plans to release a discussion paper on market abuse regulations in the fourth quarter of 2024. In the first half of 2025, it will address order handling, custody, and develop a prudential rulebook. By the third quarter of 2025, the FCA aims to adapt its Consumer Duty and Senior Managers and Certification Regime specifically for digital assets, with full implementation targeted for 2026. This regulatory framework underscores the UK's commitment to becoming a global hub for digital assets, emphasizing market integrity and consumer protection. The initiative also reflects the government's intent to provide clarity and competitiveness in the crypto sector, addressing previous delays due to the general election.
