This should be a really interesting piece, people are living longer and are healthier for longer and many want to continue their working life beyond the usual 65. Older employees have an abundance of experience and a wealth of knowledge to share, it feels like we’re missing a trick by not tapping into that more deliberately. People don’t all look, sound, or think the same way. Recognising this, earlier this year we launched a Neuroinclusion Strategy, to celebrate and encourage the contribution all our people can make, whilst also creating a better environment for our neurodivergent colleagues to be at their best. This will not only help Bank of Ireland be a great place to work, but also ensure a better experience for our customers. We are making progress. Following our policy launch, colleagues have responded brilliantly with over 4 thousand completing optional learning, training for customer facing colleagues, our manager programme getting underway, and a 'local ambassador' role to come later this year. We are also excited to be working with DCU on research to help identify ways to enhance access to work. At the same time, we know we are only at the early stages of our work, and we are learning as we go. I know we aren't alone, many others are active in developing their approach. We've had many requests for a copy of our policy, and we are keen to share our learnings along the way. The majority of HR practitioners feel unequipped to meet their organisation’s needs, and struggle to maintain a good work-life balance, research reveals. Do you agree? Well done on this great article Isabel Jackson, 👏 which shines a light on how many HR professionals are feeling right now. It was a pleasure to add my view to this article and comment on the research: Lisa Murphy, CEO of Limelite HR, said the profession has had to “rapidly develop new skills and knowledge” and “step up and help to steer and guide organisations, often at a detriment to our own wellbeing”. “This year we’ve already seen significant changes to the employment law landscape, but this may just be the tip of the iceberg if the political landscape changes following the general election,” she said. “We deal with very difficult situations but, unlike coaches or counsellors, there is no expected form of ‘supervision’ or formal support, and the training we’ve had often doesn’t equip us with the practical or softer skills needed to manage the most challenging of situations we have to face. “You only have to look at how many successful online HR communities there are to see that our profession is actively, sometimes desperately, seeking professional and emotional support from others, and feeling lonely, unappreciated and ill-equipped.” What do you think, should HR have more support for their own wellbeing, or even formal Supervision? Great to meet Minister Jack Chambers this week with the team in Chartered Accountants Ireland to discuss the CCAB-I's Pre Budget 2025 submission. Thanks to the Minister and his colleagues for such an open, frank and engaging discussion. We set out a range of proposals including: ⏱a need to reconsider the real-time aspect of enhanced reporting of benefits and other employee expenses 🎁 removing the two-gift limit to qualify for the small benefit exemption 👩‍💼 reducing employers' PRSI for minimum wage workers by 1.5% to help them introduce pensions auto-enrolment, acknowledging increasing labour costs 🏚 reducing capital gains tax from 33% to 25% 💶 reforming the tax rules around share-based remuneration to make it a more attractive option for employees and SMEs 🌐 introducing the participation exemption for dividends in a practical manner and highlighting that the upcoming review of interest deductibility is a priority for business 🚸 We also raised how the lack of capacity in childcare is impacting labour market participation and the knock-on impact on businesses Gearóid O'Sullivan Barry Dempsey Barry Doyle Sarah Meredith Jill Farrelly MPRII Chartered Accountants Ireland Department of Finance Ireland

Despite greater visibility and accountability, the pay gap persists, in Ireland and beyond. And as we know, the gap extends far beyond wages into other crucial areas like retirement savings. The inequity is deeply rooted as pay increases, bonuses, and benefits are often structured using flawed criteria that perpetuate the pay gap. Even pay-neutral benefits like paid leave tend to favor those with longer tenure, thereby putting female employees at a disadvantage due to their higher likelihood of work gaps.
