Why is coaching and mentoring crucial for your training programs?
Coaching is a learning activity, with many forms; 1:1, team, group, peer, action learning sets etc... In my MBA and Exec Ed teaching, I like to introduce coaching skills to embed learning outcomes. Bottom line: how can you have better conversations with your direct reports, peers & stakeholders by asking good questions, and "sitting on your hands" & allowing others to speak and be heard. I help leaders & managers see that organisations are structured to drive action, busyness & metrics. By slowing down to ask and listen, we can slow down to speed up! Thus, ensuring that the action we are driving is anchored in the priorities that will make the most difference to org success, & the "busyness" is replaced with a focus on balance & well being.

What are the most common feedback challenges for senior leaders?
A lot of weight is placed on the leader/manager (giver of the feedback) to 'get it right'. It is of course important that givers of feedback develop the skills needed to open up learning and growth opportunities for direct reports and in team environments. However, I would like organisations to place the same importance on developing the receivers skills - how they listen, how they respond, what they take away as learning and developmental goals. This would go someway to breaking down the tensions, and enable real conversations to take place - improving engagement, productivity and career enhancing learning aims.
