Your website visitors when you *only* talk about vague high-level benefits on your homepage: Phrases like (real-life examples): 🤷 “Unlock [category] excellence” 🤷 “Eliminate complexity” 🤷 “Empowering ambitious teams” Because – what do they even mean? And because everyone could say that too. Your prospects want to see: 🎯 If/how you solve their problems 🎯 If/how you cover their use cases 🎯 How you’re different from the competition 🎯 What tangible value they’ll get  🎯 What tools you replace 🎯 Proof that your claims are true Tell them that instead. #copywriting #messaging #saas

Canonicals can wreak havoc on your website. 😈 I recently found 43 pages on a new clients site that had canonicals pointing to the development website. 😱 There are thousands of pages, so it is pretty strange to find just a handful affected. Of course these pages were not getting indexed at all. 5 of them were key conversion pages so I can only imagine the loss of revenue from those. This is actually the second client where I have found this issue in the last 2 months. 😰 Morale of the story - always do full crawl of a website after any development work! Developers do not always understand SEO which can hurt you in the long run. #technicalseo #seoaudit #canonical

Just sent out Marie's Notes. This was a super interesting week! A few of the SEO stories: 👉Cyrus Shepard disavowed all his links again 👉Ahrefs now shows when a page's content has changed 👉Don't use fragments in URLs to manipulate search 👉Ads appearing above GBP listings 👉Configure shipping and returns in GSC A few of the AI stories: 👉Gemini in Google drive (I can't imagine working without it!) 👉OpenAI's Healthcare plan 👉DeepMind navigating robots (It freaked me out seeing the guy explain to the robot where things were.) 👉Complete summary of the Neuralink meeting - the goal is to facilitate human-AI symbiosis. There's a bunch as well about the app I'm building to possibly win a DeLorean and perhaps help a lot of people who have pain. Just happened to run into a neurphysiologist this week who thought my idea could work 💪

Agree with a lot of what Olga Zarr has to say in her piece on Search Engine Journal. Worth the read if you're an #independentconsultant or #seofreelancer. Particularly want to stress #4 - though from a slightly different angle than Olga's. The muck that's shared on LinkedIn is powerful and sticky. I've heard things regurgitated during client / prospect conversations that I know came from reading the muck. Is Your Campaign Ready for Smart Bidding? Do this BEFORE changing to Max Conv. or Max Conv. Value 👇 Most people add a smart bidding strategy too early! (Partly because Google start hounding you via recommendations & calls from reps to do this straight away 🤦‍♂️) The GOLDEN RULES for Smart Bidding & Google Ads are: #1 If you are unsure.... WAIT! There is nothing wrong with waiting another 2-3 weeks or even a month to see more data. #2 Make changes based on larger chunks of data. Don't just look at your ROAS or CPA over the past 14 days, look at what the weekly average has been over the past 4-8 weeks. #3 Set any targets on real results not what you want to achieve Adding a tCPA that is too low or a tROAS that is too high can stop any momentum your campaign has built up. So always set your tCPA higher than real results & your tROAS lower than real results. #4 Seperate budget increases to your changes in bidding It's hard to increase spend & profitability at the same time, so focus on seasons of increasing spend and then seasons of improving profitability. #5 Once you make the change... give it time! Results will often get worse before they get better. After making a change to bidding you can see 2 weeks of lower performance before results improve. So back your judgement and give Google time to adjust to the new campaign guidelines. Rather than asking you to comment "smart" or something like that... Personalised difficulty is (allegedly) better than standard difficulty. Not true. It depends on how it's calculated and Semrush unfortunately doesn't provide any clue about that. So for me this is just a gimmick metric to justify the tool extortionate price. Calculating personalised difficulty is like a score card, it includes a weighted series of metrics: - Domain authority - Number and quality of backlinks - Competitive landscape - Ranking power - EEAT score All the factors that make rank a page on top positions should be considered when calculating difficulty. And I don't think there is an SEO tool is capable of doing this, yet.

Want to rank higher on Google? You NEED to be building links. But it's the hardest part of SEO! So how can you do this? It all boils down to an exchange of value 👇 You need to give value to that other website you want a link from. Something worthwhile for them to talk about. This can be: —  Market-leading content so they link to you as a source —  If you have a one-of-a-kind product (or a new feature) —  Unique industry data or insights you created —  Access to thought leaders on your team —  Case studies or unique success stories —  Co-hosting a webinar or event —  Being a podcast guest Without this value, you’ll struggle to build good links. And you’ll have to resort to paying a website for a link. Which, can work... But isn't sustainable in the long run. So give other websites something to talk about, something of value. And link building becomes a lot easier!

How might we leverage AI to hit these targets more efficiently? Most PPC Experts overcomplicate Google Ads. They focus on unnecessarily complex advanced strategies... But in fact, you just need to do the fundamentals really well: 1: Make sure you have an irresistible offer (just sell stuff people actually want). 2: Set up crystal-clear conversion tracking to measure as much as relevant data as possible. 3: Define clear goals and KPIs so you are aligned with your clients. 4: Set up and effective campaign structure (find the perfect balance between consolidation and segmentation). 5: Target the right people (with keywords or by adding signals for AI-based targeting). 6: Create compelling creatives that drive clicks AND conversions. 7: Use the right bid strategy to reach your goals, and manage your budget efficiently. 8: Create a conversion-optimized landing page to turn visitors into customers. That's all, really. Do these things well, and it's gonna be very hard to NOT succeed. But don't skip any steps — don't even think about advanced strategies and tactics before you nail the fundamentals.
