The decision to shutter NDRC announced this week is both baffling and concerning. As Ireland’s national innovation incubator for the last 20 years, it has been a key support for the emergence of our startup ecosystem. Since taking on the mandate 4 years ago, Patrick Walsh and the Dogpatch Labs team have reinforced the foundations of its core accelerator programme, fostered entrepreneurship nationwide through a network of regional hubs, and built an incredible network of mentors and inbound investors to support the next generation of founders. Given political developments in the US and risks to FDI, Ireland needs thriving indigenous industry now more than ever. An enabler to succeed with the sustainable procurement journey is to get control of your procurement and supplier data. This is especially challenging in a group structure where you have several companies with fragmented data across various sources. This was the starting point for Garda Group before they started to use Ignite. They had acquired several companies and established themselves as the leading provider of security solutions in Northern Europe. With Ignite, they managed to gather, consolidate and harmonize data across companies, enabling them to get a baseline and to start working systematically to reduce risks and emissions. Some 18.5% were within GB, while only 15.6% (£13.3bn) were #exports to markets outside the UK. A big thank you to Scale Ireland for highlighting changes announced in the budget for tech companies and scale up companies! Increase the amount reimbursed in year one under the R&D Tax Credit scheme from €50k to €75k; Increase in the relief available under the Start-up Relief for Entrepreneurs from €700k to €980k; Doubling in the investment limits under the Employment Investment Incentive scheme (EIIS) from €500k to €1m; Increase in the lifetime limit on gains liable for reduced Capital Gains Tax (for Angel Investors in innovative start-ups and SMEs) from €3m to €10m (Note: new 16% for individuals or 18% through Partnerships announced in Budget 2024);  New relief for expenses incurred in connection with a first listing on an Irish or European stock exchange, subject to a cap of €1 million; Subject to state aid rules, introduce Stamp Duty exemption for Irish SMEs to access equity via financial trading platforms designed to support their funding needs; Enhancement of the section 486C small company start-up corporation tax relief; Commitment to consider the recommendations of the report on share ownership schemes and the review of R&D tax credit next year.
