Winter is coming... 🥶 At this time of year we can start to feel different, and not always in a good way; 👉 Cold weather causes us to stay indoors for longer 👉 We become less physically active 👉 Blood flow is reduced, which causes inflammation 👉 Inflammation causes depressive symptoms ☀️ We get vitamin D from, among other things, the sun ☁️ At this time of year, there's not much of it in Northern Europe! 😢 👉 Vitamin D triggers the release of 'feel good' hormones like dopamine and serotonin 🙂 It's why we feel good in the summer and during a holiday in the sun 👉 Vitamin D receptors are in the area of the brain responsible for depression... It's important to understand why you feel like you do, especially for drivers who spend long periods on their own, who often get up in the dark and get home in the dark. Attracting people to a driving profession at a local level continues to be priority for many countries, but is it enough? 🤔 Estimates show that even with a recruitment drive there won't be enough people to meet demand, so the #drivershortage will continue in most European nations. The IRU's #SDM4EU project aims to test and develop a model that stands to benefit Europe while at the same time, raising standards elsewhere.
