Training & consultancy for schools & workplaces in trauma-informed, neuroinclusive & therapeutic practice

About us

TINT Education provides training and consultancy for schools and workplaces in trauma-informed, neuro-inclusive and therapeutic approaches, to improve outcomes for people of all ages. Offering online and in-person services across Ireland and the UK, our mission is to support and empower the education and wider workforce to foster true inclusion and personal growth by becoming trauma-informed and neuro-inclusive. We achieve this by sharing relational and therapeutic knowledge, strategies and approaches. With a growth-mindset and strengths-based lens, we recognise the unique abilities and resilience that characterise neurodivergent children and adults, or those impacted by trauma. We also recognise the difficulties and challenges that are often faced, and how these can be overcome with the support of reasonable adjustments. Becoming trauma-informed and neuro-inclusive means the contributions, presence and perspectives of all people, including those who think differently or have different life experiences, are valued and integrated into the environment. By employing evidence-based models drawn from fields of study including psychology, neuroscience, psychotherapy, occupational therapy and speech and language therapy, we assist in creating this organisational change. Working collaboratively with clients, we equip them with the necessary knowledge and skills to leverage their own expertise and relational strengths. With appropriate guidance and support, we know that every school and organisation can promote a sense of belonging, connection and community for everyone. This is key to ensuring no child or adult is disadvantaged by their circumstances and that they are instead granted the understanding and accommodations that enable them to reach their full potential.

  • Delighted to be able to run another course in Emotion Coaching next term due to popular demand! Suitable for teachers, SNAs, Principals, Guidance Counsellors, Early Childhood Educators and anyone else working with children or young people. The approach benefits ALL children and has been shown to be particularly helpful in supporting those with autism, ADHD, or emotional regulation difficulties associated with trauma/attachment. What is Emotion Coaching? Emotion Coaching is a four-step approach that helps school staff respond to pupils’ heightened emotions and related behaviours as they occur. Originally developed by John Gottman for parenting, this relational method of communication has been effectively adapted by educational psychologists for use in schools. It is increasingly adopted by Primary and Post-Primary schools in Ireland as a strategy to support sustainable emotional health and wellbeing. Research shows that Emotion Coaching enhances staff competency and calmness, improves pupils’ emotional literacy and regulation, and fosters stronger pupil-staff relationships. Schools have also reported better pupil behaviour, higher academic achievement, improved staff wellbeing, as well as enhanced family relationships and fewer parental complaints. Places are limited as this is an interactive course (involving some use of breakout rooms for skills development exercises) so please register early to avoid disappointment: https://lnkd.in/ep72GzHN

The #1 question I hear most often when training adults who work with foster, kinship, and adoptive families: “Was it traumatic if the child was removed from their parent(s) at birth?” Yes, this is frequently one of most difficult types of trauma. There’s still the belief that infants and young children don’t experience or remember trauma when they are very young, but this is wishful thinking. Babies don’t have a narrative memory of their experiences, but the implicit memories are formed in their brain and body. I get it. Nobody wants to believe that a baby would experience trauma, it hurts us too much to think about - including me. But, if we want to change the future of our society we must acknowledge that trauma can happen at the earliest stages of human life. We’ve been denying it for eons, and it’s way past time we face the reality and provide interventions as early as possible in the lives of children with trauma. It’s also ok if you didn’t know this before right now. Lots of people don’t know it, and there’s still more I need to learn about early life trauma. But, we can do better for children moving forward if we accept this information and increase trauma-responsive care for children. #childwelfare #socialwork #childhoodtrauma

For crying out loud. The Department for Education and this government are insistent on remaining wholly ignorant about the REAL problems fuelling absence from schools. What do they propose? - To continue to ignore the real barriers to school-based education and instead waste a further £15 million on attendance mentors! Meanwhile, the mental health lead and mental health training for every staff member in every school, as promised in two key policies (2017/18) are yet to materialise. Mainstream school is no longer a safe option for hundreds of thousands of children, who are being re/traumatised by schools' draconian, zero tolerance approach to behaviour, which is causing many children distress - particularly those who have SEND and those who have been exposed to adverse childhood experiences and trauma. On which note - surviving a global pandemic IS a ''Big T'' trauma - yet children/YP are just expected to ''keep calm and carry on''. NO! This trauma needs to be seen, validated and processed with safe adults, if is to be healed. While pre/post Covid attendance are constantly churned out - the underlying reasons why are always omitted. Covid gave families the opportunity and freedom to educate their children at home/alternatively. Their children did not have to be confined to school to be subjected to re/traumatising practices (particularly around their dysregulated behaviours). Of course they would choose to protect their children from this torment. It is no coincidence that over 140,000 children (predominantly those with SEND) are now being home-schooled as a result of being unable to cope with mental and physical health challenges, bullying, trauma, excessive academic pressure, overly strict behaviour policies and an ever-narrowing/irrelevant curriculum (because apparently play, sport, drama, music, art and cooking are unnecessary extras in life!) The answer is not more policing in schools - it lies in embedding TRAUMA-INFORMED CARE. Until this informs and guides the cultural ethos and provision in schools, attendance WILL remain an issue - because the government is an ignorant ass and the Department for Education is lead by clueless, myopic, misguided and ill-equipped individuals. High time for trauma-informed transformation. Fail to invest now - pay later. https://lnkd.in/eayi_q9q
