Looking for ways to be more sustainable this holiday season? Why not rethink your giving habits? 🎄 🧸 In this article our Associate Director Sharon Keilthy discusses the carbon footprint of the toy industry and some opportunities and challenges that companies in this space face when it comes to being more sustainable. 🌍 💡 Sharon says ‘things are moving in the right direction but more regulation is needed. As long as it is more expensive to do the right thing, and cheaper and easier to do the wrong thing, it’s clear what people will do.’ 💡 In order to tackle this problem Giorgia Anile, a PhD student at UCC has created the first digital toy exchange library, giving parents a platform to find, exchange or donate second hand toys free of charge to give them a longer lifespan. SustainabilityWorks’ journey to becoming a B Corp Certified business took time and teamwork. But it was worth it! In this article, SW Co-Founder Karen Deignan reflects on the experience. Here are some of the highlights 💡 : 1. Our B Corp journey began in Feb ‘23 when Karen and Kim took part in Ireland’s first B Leader training course. 📑 2. We submitted our completed B Impact Assessment 10 months later in Dec ’23. ✅ 3. Everyone was involved in preparing the information and evidence to support our submission. It was a real team effort. 🧑🧑🧒🧒 4. The assessment process left no stone unturned. Now we know why B Corp certification is so well respected – it’s hard to get! 📄 5. Having to demonstrate our Impact Business Model (IBM) made us document our ‘theory of change’ which was a great exercise and re-confirmed SW’s purpose and mission. 🌍 6. Beyond certification, B Corp has given us a structured framework to help us grow our business in the right way going forward – consciously and with intent. So that we can live up to our belief in ‘business as a force for good’. 🤝 Check out the article here: https://lnkd.in/gaB64yyT B Lab Ireland, B Lab Europe, Laura Heuston, Aideen O'Hora, Kim K., Ciara Murphy, Sharon Keilthy, Dónall Hogan, Paddy Molony, George Dempster, Hannah Tyrrell, Sheila Harte

🔊 📰 Big News!! We are delighted to announce that SustainabilityWorks is now a Certified B Corporation! 🎉 🎉 This was one of our goals for the business from day one, so we’re extremely proud to have reached this milestone. It aligns with our ethos as a mission-driven consultancy and our fundamental belief in business as a force for good. ❔ What is a B Corp? ❔ Being B Corp Certified means that a company has been verified as meeting B Lab’s high standards for social and environmental impact, that it has made a legal commitment to stakeholder governance (i.e. taking all stakeholders into account in decision-making), and that it demonstrates accountability and transparency via its public B Corp profile. You can see SW’s profile here: https://lnkd.in/ecW6JjQz We’re really excited to be part of the B Corp community in Ireland and globally. We’ll share some reflections on our B Corp journey in our next post!
