Origin is pleased to announce a minority investment in BioGains, a UK startup company which provides offsite solutions for Biodiversity Net Gain (‘BNG’) and other ecosystem services.   Founded by Jon Garner and Andrew Rowe, BioGains helps developers, Local Planning Authorities and corporate clients meet their delivery needs while generating income for landowners and establishing valuable new habitats.   Through Origin’s leadership across both the Agriculture and Living Landscapes markets, we hope this strategic partnership will open new land opportunities for future habitat banks across the UK. In collaboration with BioGains, our Origin Environmental businesses will undertake the associated ecological surveys, assessments, designs and practical habitat works, bringing over 200 environment and ecology professionals into their support network, and Mark Webb will join their Board as an Investor Director.   Beyond our agronomic and environmental expertise, BioGains will also be supported in their practical habitat works by our Landscaping businesses, such as British Hardwood Tree Nursery Limited, one of the UK’s largest tree distributors, as well as several other leading suppliers to the landscaping and forestry industries.   We look forward to supporting BioGains’ continued growth, and strengthening our position as a leader delivering sustainable, innovative solutions in the rapidly evolving BNG market.

Today we are pleased to announce our Q1 FY25 Trading Update. The Group achieved a solid first quarter performance, despite delayed planting in the Northern Hemisphere and Brazil.   In our Agriculture market, we expect to see recovery in volumes in Q2 following recent improvements in planting conditions, as overall cropping areas across our geographies return to a more normal level relative to last year.   Within Living Landscapes, we were pleased to see strong organic growth and to welcome four new businesses which strengthen our environmental expertise, further complementing these services in line with our strategic ambitions. We are pleased to report our full year results for the financial year ended 31 July 2024 (‘FY24’). While trading conditions have been particularly challenging throughout FY24, the resilience of our business model and increased diversity of our earnings profile is evident in our solid full year performance. Following a strong Q4, Origin delivered FY24 operating profit of €83.5m and adjusted EPS of 48.06 cents, at the upper end of guidance. Strong performances in Central Europe, LATAM, and our Living Landscapes division contributed to this result. Living Landscapes now represents 14.2% of Group profit, up from 12.2% last year. We returned €36.7m to shareholders in FY24 through buybacks and dividends, and invested €44.3m in acquisitions, including the full acquisition of Fortgreen in Latin America. Thanks to the dedication and commitment of our teams, we are well on track to deliver the strategic, financial, operational and ESG ambitions outlined at our 2022 Capital Markets Day. We are delighted to announce that we have opened another Neo Environmental office in the City of Bristol increasing our number of offices to 6! And what would be a new office without some new staff? So on that front, Russell Buckley has joined Neo Environmental as a Technical Director (Consenting and EIA) and will be heading up the office. Russell will be supported by Jack Ellis as a Principal Planner. Russell is a chartered environmentalist, who brings circa 20 years of industry experience to the team, having worked for a number of large and small multi-disciplinary consultancies. He has worked on various large energy projects, including DCOs for large scale solar projects and grid infrastructure. Jack has over 7 years of consultancy experience as a Principal Planner. He has a wealth of experience in the renewable and low carbon energy sector having worked on numerous large scale solar and energy storage projects including DCO and Section 36 applications for large scale solar and storage projects. Jack arrives having previously worked for two other large multi-disciplinary consultancies and also brings with him valuable experience in the commercial, residential and telecommunications sectors.
