Businesses invest time, effort and money into protecting their IP. When you are doing you Christmas shopping please be aware of counterfeit goods and the impact buying these goods have on the legitimate businesses such as loss of profit, exploitation of creative works, damage to the reputation of the business. Did you know that sometimes these products are produced in unacceptable situations where child or slave labour may be involved or even sometimes the sale of these goods are used to fund terrorist organisations. It is really important to try and avoid spending money on these types of products no matter how tempting they may be. Always respect IP protected work and other people’s creations. We were delighted to chat with Padraig Teahan from RT Sales Ltd about the importance of SMEs protecting their intellectual property rights. RT Sales Ltd are a Kerry based family-owned business selling high quality hedge cutters, which are all made in Ireland. Many years of research and development have gone into developing the patented mounting system unique to RT ProArm, who were recent winners of the National Ploughing Association Machine of the Year 2024 for their hedge cutter and mounted design. RT Sales have patented their invention in Ireland, UK and Europe and have a worldwide patent pending. Protecting your intellectual property (IP) is crucial for maintaining a competitive edge and unlocking new business opportunities. It also allows SMEs to protect their product from being copied by others as well as strengthening the brand. As Padraig says “ As a company we know how important it is to protect our IP rights through patents especially when we have invested years of work to solve real challenges faced by our industry”.
