🎄 Galway Chamber Christmas Business Lunch 2024 🎄 Yesterday, we celebrated the festive season at the beautiful The Hardiman Hotel with our Galway Chamber Christmas Business Lunch, bringing our 2024 programme of events to a close. A huge thank you to our sponsors, KPMG, and Laurence May, Head of KPMG, for their continuous support. We were honoured to welcome Professor Peter McHugh, Interim President of the University of Galway, as our guest speaker. During an engaging fireside chat with Laurence May, Professor McHugh shared insights into his background and leadership priorities. He also highlighted how the University is managing emerging opportunities and challenges in AI and discussed ways to foster collaboration with industry—particularly in engineering and biomedical science—to drive innovation and create opportunities for local businesses. Our Chamber President, Cait Noone FIHI, provided a recap of the Chamber's recent activities, while emphasizing the importance of shopping local this Christmas to support Galway’s thriving community. ✨ Yesterday evening, we had the pleasure of hosting our final networking event of the year in collaboration with Galway Convention Bureau . The Genesys Building provided a stunning cultural backdrop, complete with breathtaking views of the Port of Galway. Niamh Stack from the Galway Convention Bureau gave an engaging update on their vital role in attracting conferences, meetings, and business events to Galway, further highlighting Galway's growing presence on the global stage. Attendees were excited to hear about Galway’s latest achievement in the Global Destination Sustainability Index, with the city climbing 14 places to an impressive 25th position, reflecting our collective strides toward sustainability. A special thank you to Ciara Greaney, who shared invaluable insights into the Galway Chamber’s newly formed Sustainability Committee and their gaols for the future of Galway. We extend our deepest gratitude to Dolores Andrew and Mary Finn for their contribution to the minutes of the mic and telling us a little bit about themselves and the work they do. The evening ended on a magical note, thanks to the enchanting festive performance by soprano Helen Hancock, accompanied by the talented harpist Leah, who delighted us with a selection of carols.
