📣 Recently, The Food Reformulation Task Force has published a report on "The Accuracy of Nutrition Declarations on the Labels of Sugar-Sweetened Carbonated Beverages and Processed Cheeses Sampled in 2023". Nutrition declarations on food labels are used as an information source for monitoring food reformulation progress in Ireland. It is important that this information is accurate in order to truly reflect reformulation efforts. Seven Enforcement Orders were served on food businesses in November. The Enforcement Orders were issued by Environmental Health Officers in the Health Service Executive. Some of the reasons for the Enforcement Orders in November include: active cockroach infestation; rodent activity and rodent droppings; premises being used as accommodation; lack of hand washing facilities in a room where raw food is handled; grease leaking from a pipe underneath a food preparation sink; containers of cooked meat, raw meats and sauces in a cold room uncovered and with no expiry dates. Today EFSA/ECDC published the European Union One Health 2023 Zoonoses Report, which presents the results of zoonoses monitoring and surveillance activities across the EU. Key findings include: 📈 Listeriosis cases in the EU hit the highest level since 2007. 🦠 Campylobacteriosis and salmonellosis were the most frequently reported zoonotic diseases in humans. 🍽️ The number of reported foodborne outbreaks slightly decreased compared to the previous year, while the number of human cases, hospitalisations and deaths increased. 📢 Today, the Food Reformulation Task Force, a strategic partnership between Healthy Ireland Local Government and the Food Safety Authority of Ireland, hosted an event 🎉“Pathways and Progress: Achievements in Food Reformulation”. The event hosted food manufacturers, retailers, the out-of-home food service sector, and others with an interest in food reformulation in Ireland. 🍴 🎤 The event included a keynote address on the intersection between food reformulation and sustainability, case study presentations from the food industry showcasing work currently being done in food reformulation, and overviews of national supports available for reformulation by Teagasc and Enterprise Ireland. 👏 #FoodReformulation
