Solve the puzzle and tell us your thinking, and we'll teach you computer coding, from zero to internship-ready. (If you're also young, economically disadvantaged, in Ghana, and you solve some more puzzles :) At the tail end of last year, we hopped out of our Land Cruiser in Accra, Ghana, halfway into our road trip from Barcelona to Cape Town 🚙. We threw together this 'How Many Squares' flyer, and set off trawling the streets in some economically disadvantaged areas of the city. We were searching for young people whose eyes would light up at the prospect of figuring out the answer to this puzzle. This was the birth of Cellusys CodeCamp, our charity in Ghana. A good number of people here in Ghana haven't had the opportunity of education to a level that really challenges them academically, and very often the starting point is simply counting the small squares. With a hint though, we'll see realisation in their eyes, and a determination to get the answer. Once we see a determined problem solver, we've found somebody for the next stage of our selection process 🧠. So far, we've trained 75 talented young people, and we're expanding rapidly, opening new classes over the next few weeks. We've learnt a lot here, and we have some stories to tell. Over the next while we'll introduce you to our lovely, more-than-fantastic team here in Ghana, our dedicated, talented students and the transformations they're seeing, and our experiences setting up this project. During WAS#19 in Bali, Cellusys had the privilege of hosting All or Nothing Elite Ultra Athlete and inspirational speaker Rosanna Morani for an evening where she shared her diverse and extraordinary life dedicated to inspiring and empowering others to be true to themselves. Rosanna competes in ultra challenges dedicated to charities and causes close to her heart. In 2022, she finished first in the ultra across Kenya in Africa, raising funds for Rhino Conservation. As the Cellusys team return to Africa this November for their return journey, Rosanna also returns to Africa again to run across Namibia in the ‘Beyond The Ultimate Desert Ultra’. This is known to be one of the worlds toughest Ultra Athlete endeavors, running during the Namibian summer in temperatures over 50 degrees to raise funds and awareness for children suffering from brain cancer. We are wishing Rosanna the best of luck in this challenging run across the Namibian desert and supporting a cause very close to her.
