  • Introducing our Youth Board Following a hugely competitive selection process with 251 applicants, with an outstanding standard of applicants, we selected 15 young people to be part of our first ever Youth Board. Meeting for the first time this week; Aisling, Aliyah, Aoife, Daibhidh, Dan, Latisha, Leo, Lilian, Melodie, Molly, Jack, James, Jason, Sai and Sarah-Jayne will act as CIE Group’s advisory board, providing insights, feedback and ideas to feed into CIÉ’s board. The Youth Board is an innovative way to support our Board; helping bring fresh perspectives and the desired outcome is that we unlock new insights and ideas that support problem solving and innovation opportunities faced by CIÉ Group. Together, they are invited to share a youth perspective on operational issues, sustainability and communications. They will make recommendations on new ways to encourage the public at large to move from private to public transport. Fiona Ross, Outgoing Chairperson of the CIÉ Board, spearheaded the project in partnership with Lorcan O'Connor O’Connor Group CEO of CIÉ, Aidan Grogan, Head of Group Human Resources, Miriam Hughes, Chair of Bus Eireann, Emer Murray Bus Board Member and Ann Neary, Manager Group Secretariat. The marketing of the recruitment and framework for the Youth Board was developed by our project partners at THINKHOUSE and The Youth Lab. Yesterday was our first Youth Board gathering. We met at CIÉ HQ, Heuston Station and later, at Irish Rail, Inchicore Works, to show them some of the newest lower carbon additions to the CIÉ fleet; an electric Dublin Bus, a Bus Éireann Hydrogen bus and a prototype of the new battery electric DART+ train, the first of which will be arriving into the country this Autumn. At CIÉ, we’re on a journey to transform Ireland’s public transport system. We believe that having the perspective of young people, through a Youth Board, influencing our decision-making, will make us better as an organisation and deliver better outcomes for Ireland. We’re excited that this diverse group of creative, forward-thinking, ambitious young people will collaborate with us to evolve and grow Ireland’s public transport system, future-proofing CIÉ. We were blown away with the quantity and quality of applicants. So many talented young people applied and we are delighted to have secured such a skilled and diverse group to sit on our first Youth Board. We can’t wait to see what they will achieve and have no doubt that their input will leave a lasting legacy for CIÉ and all who use public transport.   #TRAILBLAZERS #YOUTHBOARD #CIEGROUP #CIE #YOUTH

Bus Éireann launched its new 5 year Sustainability Strategy, ‘Driving Change’ today with Chief Safety and Sustainability Officer, Rory Leahy and the children of Ballyvary National School in Castlebar. Bus Éireann is currently trialling the use of a biofuel called Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO) as a potential replacement for diesel fuel, the trial is currently running on four buses, three of which operate on the school transport scheme in Ballvary. The use of high quality HVO fuel can reduce overall emissions by up to 85% in comparison to diesel. https://lnkd.in/eR5UFSwZ #DrivingChange
