Indonesia must align land inventory method with #EUDR: Minister Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of Environment and Forestry, Siti Nurbaya Bakar, emphasized the need for adjustments to land inventory measurement methods in Indonesia to align with the European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR). Her statement followed her participation in a meeting with President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) and Norwegian Climate and Environment Minister Andreas Bjelland Eriksen. The discussion centered on greenhouse gas emission reduction strategies within the forestry sector. Bakar highlighted that despite Norway not being an EU member, their support is crucial for clarifying the regulation, particularly concerning Indonesian oil palm products. "In implementing the EUDR, the European Union introduces tools for land and forest inventories. However, if the GFW (Global Forest Watch) method is used, errors are significant in Indonesia," she remarked. Field observations, conducted jointly with the World Research Institute (WRI), underscore the need to tailor the measurement approach used in Indonesia, she added. Bakar assured that Indonesia actively addresses the regulation, which prohibits #commodities and agricultural products derived from #deforestation and forest degradation. The #EUDR also mandates that suppliers disclose coordinates for the land where their commodities and products originate. https://lnkd.in/dhg7EUn6 #soybean #soybeanmeal

We need to have a discussion about what is productive farm land. I am always hearing new plantations are going on to productive farm land; but what is this exactly? Is it the photo below (where the farm land is slipping away)? Is it land below a certain slope? Does soil type play a role? Maybe if we can define this then my industry (professional forestry) and the farming community can agree the best use for each land type. I know there is land on farms which should be in trees (plantation, native, or space planted with poplar etc); likewise I acknowledge some fantastic farm land has been planted recently. Let’s have the discussion, define the land types and work together to improve both our sectors as well as the NZ economy. Currently 4.6 sheep per person and 170 timber trees per person in NZ. Let’s grow both of these.

Aquaponics Training for Sustainable Farming: Tây Ninh Leads with Clean Fish and Vegetable Production In a proactive move to promote sustainable agriculture, the Science and Technology Center of Tây Ninh Province, in collaboration with Thành Đoàn Tây Ninh, recently launched a five-day aquaponics training program for more than 30 youth leaders and community members in Ninh Sơn and Tân Bình. This training offers a comprehensive introduction to aquaponics, an innovative system that combines fish farming and hydroponic vegetable cultivation in a single closed-loop environment, enabling the production of fresh food with minimal resources. Aquaponics represents a symbiotic ecosystem: fish provide organic waste, which is converted by beneficial bacteria into nutrients for plants. These plants, in turn, help purify the water, which then cycles back to the fish tanks. By utilizing this natural filtration and nutrient recycling, aquaponics reduces the need for fertilizers, pesticides, and large amounts of water, addressing key environmental challenges in modern agriculture. Hands-On Learning for Practical Skills Participants in the Tây Ninh training program gain hands-on experience in constructing and operating a functional aquaponics system. The course covers essential system com...

Crop Nutrition Laboratory Services (Cropnuts)
Introduction to the Boron Nutrient Boron (B) is an essential micronutrient that plays a critical role in plant growth and development. Despite being required in small quantities, boron significantly impacts crop yield and quality. Let's explore the importance of boron in plant nutrition and how to manage it effectively for optimal crop production: 1️⃣ Role of Boron in Plants Boron is vital for cell wall formation and stability, which directly affects plant structure and integrity. It also plays a key role in cell division, seed and fruit development, pollen germination, and the transport of sugars and other nutrients within the plant. Adequate boron levels ensure healthy plant growth and optimal reproductive processes. 2️⃣ Boron Deficiency Symptoms Boron deficiency can manifest in several ways, including stunted growth, brittle and thickened stems, poor root development, and deformed or discolored leaves. In fruit and seed crops, boron deficiency can lead to reduced fruit set, lower seed viability, and poor fruit quality. Identifying these symptoms early and addressing boron deficiencies is crucial for maintaining crop health and yield. 3️⃣ Factors Affecting Boron Availability Boron availability in soils is influenced by several factors, including soil pH, organic matter content, and soil texture. Boron is most available in soils with a pH range of 5.0 to 7.0. Sandy soils with low organic matter content are more prone to boron leaching and deficiency, while soils with high clay content may have boron availability issues due to fixation. 4️⃣ Managing Boron Levels Regular soil testing is essential to monitor boron levels and address deficiencies promptly. Boron fertilizers, such as borax or boric acid, can be applied to correct deficiencies. However, it is crucial to apply boron judiciously, as excessive boron can be toxic to plants. Foliar sprays can also be an effective method for providing boron to crops with immediate needs. 5️⃣ Best Practices for Boron Management To optimize boron availability and uptake, adopt soil management practices that enhance soil health and organic matter content. Incorporating organic amendments, practising crop rotation, and maintaining proper soil pH can help improve boron availability and overall soil fertility. In conclusion, understanding and managing boron nutrition is essential for healthy crops and high yields. By regularly monitoring soil boron levels and implementing best practices, farmers and agronomists can ensure that their crops receive the boron they need for optimal growth and productivity. High-density plantation in apple-A highly remunerative enterprise High-density planting (HDP) refers to increasing the plant population per unit area of land to increase the fruit production, overcome low productivity and the long gestation period for early returns, which is achieved by using suitable scion varieties grafted on dwarfing/semi-dwarfing rootstocks. High-density planting of apple varieties grafted on dwarf/semi-dwarf clonal rootstocks can accommodate approximately 3,333 plants/ha to improve productivity without affecting the quality of the produce. Technology HIGH-DENSITY orchards can be laid on flat and fertile lands with assured irrigation are trained to modern methods of training systems, viz.espalier, vertical axis, slender spindle, tall spindle, etc. The technology is helpful in the best utilization of land resources, ease in orchard inter-culture operations, plant protection, harvesting and to obtain export quality of the produce. Canopy management has paramount importance in high-density planting to control vigour of trees and harvest of quality fruits. #HighDensityPlantation #Horticulture #The New Zealand Institute for Plant and Food Research Limit
