This demand is comes from domestic first for B2B buyers such as flavor and fragrance industry. why clove leaf oil is so important? over 70% demand from global market come from Indonesia. It is become raw material for flavor and fragance industry such as cosmetics dan perfumes. essential oil is the key of raw material for your perfumes you use everday. My daily job is full of surprises. I might be out scouting and meeting inspiring founders who are tackling significant challenges in large markets. On other days, I spend hours evaluating a company’s financial performance and champion selected companies to the Investment Committee. Often, the numbers reveal more than the pitch itself. It has been an exciting journey to be at the forefront of tiny acorns growing into mighty oaks that will go on to shape the future, especially when we’re invested in their success! ‍ 🧐  What's something about you or your job that would surprise us? I always thought I would end up with a career in the Arts, even though I'm now in a Venture Capital fund instead. However, I have come to learn that Investment in itself is a form of art. ‍ 🏆  What has been the biggest highlight of your career so far? Championing underdogs, and seeing them change the future and break the status quo. ‍ 🔍  What's a startup trend or space you're watching this year? There is no specific trend that I have been looking out for, however, I am keeping an eye out for SEA startups that can sell globally. If executed well, there is clear cost arbitrage for such businesses which paves a clear path to profitability. I believe the best opportunities often arise at the most unexpected times. ‍ 💼  What advice would you give someone starting out in your industry? Meet as many people as possible. Keep an open mind and actively listen. Don’t be afraid to ask questions, as it is one of the best ways to sharpen your curious mind. I live by the saying “The man who asks a question is a fool for a minute, the man who does not ask is a fool for life.” ‍ Life or career is not a steady slope, it is more of a wave, with crests and troughs. This is especially true in venture capital, with some investments returning the fund and some going to zero. Face challenges, failures, and risks headstrong and learn from them. ‍ 🗣  What's one thing you can keep talking about for hours? I would have to say Andrew Huberman’s way of living or the profiles and history of successful entrepreneurs. How TaniHub went from farm-to-table to farm-to-failure: (a $82.5M mistake) 🇮🇩 TaniHub is a B2B platform that connects Indonesian farmers directly to customers without the need for middlemen. As the business grew, TaniHub also provided logistical support through TaniSupply and financial backing through TaniFund (a peer-to-peer lending platform to support farmers financially), creating an end-to-end solution for the agricultural supply chain. In short, TaniHub group has 3 platforms: - TaniHub - TaniSupply - TaniFund At its peak, it raised $82.5M from top investors. TaniHub even became a household name when President Joko Widodo mentioned TaniHub in the 2019 presidential debate as an example of Indonesia’s Industry 4.0 future. However, the agri-party didn’t last long. Everything collapsed when the company was: - run by inexperienced founders - sued for loan defaults through TaniFund (only 36% of their 90-day loans being repaid successfully) - in legal troubles and investigations After digging deeper, I realised the farming industry in Indonesia has a much deeper problem. 🐓 How Pitik went from poultry powerhouse to $59M failure: (chicken tech gone wrong) 🇮🇩 Founded by Arief Witjaksono and Rymax Joehana in 2021, Pitik is an agritech startup that empowers Indonesian chicken farmers through technology to produce chickens more efficiently. It provides farmers with smart farming applications, farm inputs, and financing solutions to enhance productivity and efficiency. And guess what? Chicken farmers love Pitik. 🐥 Within 1 year, Pitik: - 20x revenue growth ($600K → $12.2M) - Installed 500 IoT systems across Java Island - Raised $14M from Alpha JWC Ventures + Wavemaker At its peak, Pitik was probably Indonesia’s largest poultry tech company. It was flying high… However, Pitik started sinking 1 year after raising fund. Everything collapsed when the company: - reported $0 revenue and $6.52M net loss - relied on investor money to grow - aggresive expansion backfired - lost investor confidence - 2x massive layoffs - fired the entire tech department (no more agritech?) - failed to adapt to Indonesia's volatile poultry market - employees' severance pay was delayed (co-founder was on holiday in Australia 😮) This is, by far, the most epic startup failure I've ever seen. As someone who grew up in a French farm, the thought of machines tending to these staple grains both fascinates and concerns me. A recent video of a robot working alongside a farmer in a Chinese rice paddy has me pondering the future of agriculture in Southeast Asia, particularly Indonesia. The country stands at the crossroads of tradition and innovation, with robots knocking at the bamboo gate. Elevarm offers a platform of interconnected horticultural services and products. It aims to help farmers with farming productivity, market reach, as well as financing. The strategic raise... will go towards scaling Elevarm’s seedlings and organic fertiliser production capacity threefold to meet growing demand from smallholder farmers, as well as advancing NextBio, Elevarm’s research and development (R&D) engine dedicated to organic agricultural product innovations. The new funding will enable it to scale its greenhouse space to more than treble its current size, increasing production capacity for high-quality seedlings. This would make seedings more affordable for smallholder farmers.
