Jakarta-based Health insurtech startup Rey.id has secured an additional US$3.5 million in funding to expand its AI-powered health insurance platform. The investment comes from CyberAgent, Inc. Capital, Arthazen Capital , and PT Gametraco Tunggal, as well as existing investors. Rey was founded in 2021 by Evan Tanotogono, former head of digital channel at Sequis, one of Indonesia’s largest insurers, and Bobby Siagian, who held lead engineering roles at companies including Tokopedia and Sea Group. Great marketing attracts customers. But great products keep them. (figure out if you can do both) This is a very sobering reminder as I stare at the Gojek app on the driver dashboard in front of me, as my ride meander through the busy streets of Ho Chi Minh City. Here's what happened: I needed a car to get to office, but Grab couldn't find me a driver, not even after waiting for >10 minutes. I'm meeting my remote team in-person for the 1st time, and I hate to be late. I had to switch to Gojek, otherwise I'd never make it in time. To my surprise, I got a ride almost immediately, and the fare was cheaper. Why does this matter? → I used to be a product manager in Grab's transport team. → I was a Platinum member (highest loyalty tier) even before joining Grab. → I love the company, its product, and its mission. But when the product couldn't solve my problem when I needed it, I switched in a heartbeat. And honestly? It wasn't the first time, nor will it be the last. As the founder of CCLARITY, I’ve been splitting myself between Product & Marketing for the past 6 months. And today has been a great reminder: 👉 A great personal brand and content strategy will get people to discover and trust you.  👉 But your product or service MUST deliver when it counts. For long-term growth and joy as an entrepreneur, Product-Market fit and Founder-Market fit must overlap. So, how can you figure out if there’s a fit? Instead of asking: "Am I obsessed with the problem I'm trying to solve?"  ↳ Write 10 LinkedIn posts about the problem and market. How does it feel? Instead of asking: "Do I deeply understand the problem?"  ↳ Build a product you want to use daily to solve your own problems. Does it work? Instead of asking: "Do I have relevant industry experience and network?"  ↳ Meet 10-30 people who fit your target customer profile. Are you still enthusiastic? Nothing brings clarity like taking action. Gather data, check your emotions, analyze your thoughts. Yes, founder-led marketing is crucial. A contrarian perspective on product craft or any craft... While I love Bangaly insightful talks on frameworks for improving products, organizations, & careers, I believe that true craft cannot be captured or replicated within a framework. Craft is an art, and art defies the rules of frameworks. Frameworks are invaluable for structured approaches, fostering collaboration, and achieving specific goals. They are the backbone of efficiency and alignment, and have their place in many aspects of business and life. But craft is different. It's the art of being spontaneous, emotional, innovative, and unique. Trying to fit it into a framework is like trying to framework the romance of Paris, or capture the essence of the Golden Gate Bridge. It diminishes the very magic it seeks to explain. Think back to the early days of Uber. We delivered on craft daily. From our app to our whimsical initiatives like Uber Ice Cream and Kittens, it was the magic that made Uber special. It was the culture, the hustle, the commitment at every level to deliver on our brand promise. Throughout history, people have tried to capture and replicate magic—to put it in a bottle, to sell it, to own it. Perhaps the very nature of craft is that it cannot be contained. Perhaps it's meant to be experienced, not explained.

📚 Game over for Zenius after 20 years Here's how a wrong bet that killed the whole company: Zenius, founded in 2004, was an Indonesian edtech company that provided educational access to students through online video formats via its website and mobile apps. 💰 At its peak, Zenius had over 1,000 employees. It raised a total funding of USD 40 million from top-tier investors, including MDI Ventures, Alpha JWC, and Openspace Ventures. 📈 Thanks to the pandemic, Zenius grew like crazy due to the surge in demand for online classes. Then, after the pandemic, students returned to offline classes — and Zenius struggled. ⚠️ Here's when Zenius made a huge (wrong) bet on offline tutoring: • As a revival strategy, Zenius acquired Primagama because it bet on the offline tutoring market. • Primagama is an offline tutoring giant that provides supplementary education services to students. • However, Zenius’s post-pandemic gamble on offline learning didn’t pay off. Even after 3 rounds of massive layoffs, Zenius was still facing financial and operational struggles.
