Michael Daniel

President & CEO, Cyber Threat Alliance

Michael leads the CTA team and oversees the organization’s operations. Prior to joining the CTA in February 2017, Michael served from June 2012 to January 2017 as Special Assistant to President Obama and Cybersecurity Coordinator on the National Security Council Staff. In this role, Michael led the development of national cybersecurity strategy and policy, and ensured that the US government effectively partnered with the private sector, non-governmental organizations, and other nations.

Matthew Stith

Industry Liaison, Spamhaus
 
Matt is a seasoned anti-abuse advocate with over a decade of experience in email, cloud hosting, and general internet abuse. The internet community is where Matt’s passion lies.  By coming together and sharing lessons learned, Matt believes that this community has the power and means to combat abuse on the internet.

As Industry Liaison for Spamhaus, Matt gets to put his experience into practice; working alongside a multitude of companies and organizations to drive forward Spamhaus’ mission of making the internet a safer place for everyone.

Additionally, Matt is an active participant at M3AAWG having served two terms on its Board of Directors and authoring the Hosting Committee’s best common practices.

Tobias Knecht

Abusix, Founder and CEO

Tobias Knecht is the founder and CEO of Abusix, the world’s thought leader in Abuse Reporting and Abuse Management. Tobias is an expert in developing and shaping processes and systems that incorporate rational and effective ways to eliminate network abuse by improving industry collaboration.

Before founding Abusix, Tobias aided some of the biggest ISPs in the world to reorganize their Abuse Management and eventually transition to an automatic Abuse Management System.

Tobias started with Schlund+Partner, where he established United Internet’s (also known as 1&1, web.de, GMX) first worldwide, multi-brand Abuse Team. Tobias then joined Habeas, later ReturnPath, where he continued to develop his understanding of eMail Policy and Abuse Management from a different perspective. To directly share abuse data between industry stakeholders and his passion for helping others solve their network abuse issues. Tobias co-founded the Global Reporting Project in 2008 that sowed the seeds for launching Abusix in 2009.

Toby’s excitement about ‘how the world can become safer’, and ‘how to eliminate network abuse’ is contagious. He shares his enthusiasm about “clean networks” both in his role as the Founder & CEO of Abusix and Co-Chair of the RIPE Anti-Abuse Working Group.

Janet Jones

M³AAWG Co-Chair Board of Directors

Janet Jones joined M³AAWG back in 2014 and has been instrumental in helping the organization to tackle major security problems, particularly around non-consensual pervasive monitoring of email, voice, and other network traffic. Prior to becoming Co-Chair, Janet was Vice Chair for 4 years, and also currently serves Co-Chair of the Data and Identity Protection Committee, where she actively develops protocols and industry best practices for implementing measures that protect operational security and customer privacy. Additionally, Janet leads M³AAWG’s Diversity & Inclusion strategic direction and key initiatives, including recently spearheading new communications principles to avoid biased language.  

Janet has over 20 years of industry experience. At Microsoft, Janet is a Principal Security Program Manager in the company’s Corporate Standards Group, Privacy and Regulatory Affairs organization, where she leads security external outreach engagements across the industry and for government entities both in the US and internationally. She is responsible for providing strategic insight, feedback, and thought leadership to executives for current and emerging security trends and technologies across the industry and government sectors and is the owner of Microsoft’s security policies, standards, and requirements.  

Peter Cassidy

Peter Cassidy is co-founder and secretary general of the APWG; principal architect and CEO of the STOP. THINK.CONNECT. Messaging Convention, Inc.; founder of the Symposium on Electronic Crime Research, the only peer-reviewed research conference dedicated to cybercrime (with proceedings published by the IEEE); and founder of the Symposium on Global Cybercrime Awareness. Mr. Cassidy is also one of the principal architects of the APWG eCrime eXchange, a data clearinghouse moving upwards of 1 billion+ data fields of cybercrime-related machine event data per month to APWG member institutions in in industry, government and multilateral treaty organizations worldwide. Mr. Cassidy is an intervenor/expert witness to the United Nations (Office on Drugs and Crime), the European Commission, the Council of Europe (Convention on Cybercrime), the Organization of American States, the OECD, the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, and the Commonwealth of Nations. In real life, Mr. Cassidy is a product consultant, software designer, industrial analyst, business development consultant and widely published writer, speaker and commentator on information security, white-collar crime and electronic crime, investigating the intersection of security technologies, public policy and financial crime for decades.
